A/C concerns
A/C concerns
Havn't been on in a while hope everyone is well. I have question about my A/C. When the A/C is on one of my dash vents blowa warm air. I poked around a bit but could'nt find the solution. Thanks for the help in advance.
Is this something that can topped off with over the counter auto part store refridgerant kits or does it need to be done by someone certified ? I thought that true freon was unavailable these days but lots of people still use freon as a generic term for refridgerant. Phil
Fill it until the accumulator on the low pressure side sweats. The gauge on the cheap fill kits are very inaccurate. It will read different every time you attatch it even without making any changes.
Couple thoughts,
1-2-3 agree on those cheap fill kit gauges, I was going to borrow one of the full manifold gauge sets from the auto parts store.
I get it out of the box and notice that the gauge says for R12 OR R134a.
They are not compatible!!!!
If you get R12 in a R134a system all kinds of nasty things can happen!
Parts store did have manifold gauge kits (ranged from $50-$100) would recomend if you are gona do it your self buy one dont borrow one from the store.
Also if you do it yourself stay away from refridgerant with leak sealant. Most of the brands in the parts stores arround me had leak sealant. They had to go in the back to get me some that only contained refridgerant.
For mine the service manual says with windows open ac set to max cool with compressor clutch engaged over 50psi = low coolant and under 50psi = empty. It also says how much (by weight) however the only way to truly know how much is in the system is to compleatly evacuate and recharge the system.

Mine blew 5-10 deg warmer out of the two drivers side vents. Some People report warmer air out of the passenger side.
They did a full evacuation (only way to truly determine how much is in system is by weight) and it turns out I was 1/2 lb. low... they are still looking for the leak.
I think it comes down to "If your AC isn't behaving quite right check the refridgerant first, its the cheapest to fix."
Also I got more information on the R-12 vs R134a incompatability issue ... using the same equipment is not going to hurt anything.

Could be Fan clutch not kicking into full speed. Thats currently whats making my A/C blow warm. It blows hard so its not the HVAC but I need to replace the fan clutch which was quoted to me a 550 dollar part. Hopefully I can find it from some other place then a dealership up here.
Mine did this a few times when it was spring and I would have the heat on in the morning and the AC in the afternoon. Only 1 of my middle vents blew heat while all the other vents blew cold. What I did to fix it was turned on my heat for about 5 minutes, and then changed it back to AC and it fixed the problem. Hope this helps.
My '05 blew warm on the passenger side, cold on the driver side. I put in a can of refrigerant (about $22 at Wally World) and bingo, cold on both sides and works great. The gauges probably aren't the best, but at least they give you an idea. I have also heard that "overcharging" the system a bit helps.
It had the "sealant" in it, but I don't know what that hurts. It was obviously losing refrigerant somewhere.
