bumper question
I moved it for you. Welcome to DTR!
Well, obviously my opinion is biased! However, here is my opinion on aftermarket bumpers in general:
1) Don't worry about the weight at all. You won't notice it unless you buy some 600 lb monstrosity!
2) In most cases, you're going to improve protection around some very expensive components - headlights, radiator, intercooler, grille, etc
3) You will hear the argument that a stong aftermarket bumper will do more damage than good if you're in a wreck. While this can be true, I don't think that's a very common scenario. My opinion is that if you hit something hard enough to damage your frame, then a bent frame is probably the least of your problems.
4) the best part is that you have the opportunity to make your truck unique. You can make "improvements" to your truck in a completely custom way. With a custom bumper, you have an almost unlimited amount of choices to make that part of your truck exactly how you want it. For example, you can hide a winch inside your bumper if you offroad a lot. If you don't, you can have it build closer to your truck for a sporty look. You can put pretty much as many lights as you want in them. You can add tow hooks, receiver hitches, weight brackets, jack points, air flow holes, internal tool boxes or air tanks... pretty much anything you want.

If you're concerned with weight, these guys make a light but strong bumper. www.aluminess.com. Sportsmobile has used their product for years now.

I'm looking into the same type replacement bumper myself. Although, admittedly I'm looking at this mod as more of a looks/ "get the H out of my way" feature in the hammer lane!
