Unhappy brake lights comming on by themselves?

I noticed the other night coming home a brake light flash from my truck. Thought it was being broken into. Checked it out and nothing found. I wrote it off to reflection from the neighbors. I was washing big red tonight and noticed it flashed the rooftop brake light several times and while ground level noticed the tail lights flashed as well when it came on. I had the parkiing brake on both while it was parked while washing and while parked at night. Has anyone had this mystery brake light issue?

Over the years the brake lamp switch seemed to usually be the culprit of this. Could be other "fun" things as well, especially on the 05 and newer.

Used to happen to my Big Red One too. Sometimes going down the road at night I look back and they are on. Therefore I looked like the idiot riding his brakes down I45. Before the fix I would have to remember to put my toe under the pedal and pull up. That work around gets old.

Then, how much adrenaline pumps when you see your brake lights come out the kitchen window!!!!!

Out of warranty, dealer replaced the brake switch and all better. $97 bucks.

Did you happen to have the key fob in your pocket at the time and brush up against something? I did that once while underneath the truck, except it was the panic button that got pressed!

I am having the same issue right now with ole blue. My brake lights will come on and flash a moment or two. My neighbor thought the same thing that I had keys in my pocket, but I did not. At first, I thought that my security systems was going off due to radio interference, since we live closet to a radio/cell tower. The U.S. Air-Force has also been doing maneuvers lately in the area too. We are also next door a few county electrical cooperative warehouse. I did notice that when they are flashing my Odyssey Brake Controller will flash O.C meaning trailer disconnect. I could clear it out for a day or two by just moving the controller manual slider and they would go off no more. After the last time they did this for about three days in a row, so it cleared it and they stayed off until yesterday. Now that was about three weeks ago.

From what I read I been thinking about trying the brake light/pedal switch repair first, since it sounds cheap and easy. Then maybe checking the wiring under the truck and under the dash for rub trough's. If I can find my RF wave meter and catch the lights going off I might try to check for radio waves around the truck.

It's probly the brake switch, very cheap and 5-10 minutes to install:

I had the exact same problem recently...It turned out to be the el cheapo brake controller I had installed by U-Haul...The problem went away as soon as I disconnected it......Ben
