Anyone line x the bottom of their doors/box

i was wondering if anyone has linex'd the bottom of their doors on the seam that runs all the way to the back of the truck, to protect it from rocks and such. pics would be great thanks.

I would love to, but I called for a quote yesterday and was told $1400. I about fell out of my chair. It's going to have to wait for me.

You can do it yourself alot cheaper with some masking tape, a brush and a gallon of the Walmart truck bed liner. Use 2 coats and have enough to do three or four trucks for about $50.

$1400 - OUCH!! I was quoted close to $800 about a year ago here in Las Vegas and I thought that was high.

I've thought about the do-it-yourself-kit, but I'm not sure I want the do-it-myself results on a 2006 truck I plan to keep for a long time.

I've thought about talking to the guys at Line-x or a competitor and asking them that if I did all the prep work (which you would have to do with the kit) would they spray it and warranty it as well? I've heard that's the labor intensive/expensive part of the process, so it might be worth looking into.

I wouldn't do the whole bed with the DIY stuff, because it's just not the same. But you'd be crazy not to do the rockers yourself for that kind of money. It takes a good 10 minutes to run the tape and hit it with some sandpaper. Then another few minutes each coat. You almost can't screw it up, it costs next to nothing time/moneywise and nodoby's looking down there anyway.

But if you feel better about spending a grand for something like that, by all means go for it!

I had my bed done up over the sides too. Vortex liner. Looks better than others to me. It has more texture. $400. Theres more there than on the sides so i certainly dont understand $1400. I wonder how that stuff will look 10 years from now because it sure wont come back off without a grinder and sander. I'd be worried about it fading and holding dirt. Its cheaper to repaint the bottom of the truck if it gets too dinged up.

Good call on the door bottoms. I just noticed some rust
starting down there from dirt rubbing between the bottom
of the door and the sill.

I thought about the DIY Line-X type stuff but am worried about
clearance. Anyone have experience with this?

I had Rhino Lining on my 2nd gen

What I liked was no rock chips and no waxing there!

What I didn't like. It scraped off on the door jam were your feet rubbed. And it faded very badly. Would shine up with some "Trim Shine" but a PIA to do that all the time.

If I did it again, I would use Line X. I have the Chrome Rocker panels on mine and I was thinking of getting just the bottoms below the chrome rocker panels done. Not sure though. Almost would like to pull the rocker panels off and get that all Line Xed.

Also, I think I payed $425 or $525. I can't remember.

I know a guy who got is ford done for $450 three or four years ago. And the place that did his is the same place that quoted me $1400, I don't know what the deal is if they don't want to do it that's all they have to say. I did some more calling around and was told anywhere from $600-$2000 depending on what I wanted. I was told to expect to pay around $1000 and leave my truck there for 2-3 days.

Maybe you guys with tube steps don't have this problem, but...

I'd go clear around rocker panel and under the truck almost to the frame, and on the rear corners of the front fender (did that make sense?) . Those are the places mine is sandblasted really bad. Hey...come to think of it- the truck's already prepped! Hardly no paint there at all.

(BTW, hemi5oh, I have an '03 450 EXC. Yes, they rock!)

Done it to all my trucks except my 06. Bull Hide. Super thick, never faded. Very shinny. The guy sprays some type of coat on it to keep it shinny. It was usually around $450. Never ever chipped or peeled. I wouldn't put any other brand on MY truck personally. I don't care how popular the others are. The guy is Montana Elastomers out of Great Falls. I would drive for miles just to have him do it. Amazing stuff. I had it in all my beds including my 06. I use to cut wood and that stuff always looked new. Just a garden hose and your done. Bam!
