Another Tire Thread

It's time for new tires on my 06. Right now I have Nitto Terra Grappler 285/75r17's. I've read a lot of good things about the Toyo Open Country A/T 2 and thinking about getting these. But the guy at the tire store tried to sell me Goodyear Dura Tracs in the size of 315/70r17. I can get two of them at a great price because they were on a demo truck, but will pay regular price for the other two. I like the looks of them but I'm worried about them being too big and bulky. I don't want to start wearing things out running these. Will that size and weight hurt anything? I'm thinking these might be a over kill for what where I drive ( mostly on road). Or should I stick with getting the Toyos in the smaller size. Out of these two which will give me the best traction in rain and snow? Thanks for any ideas!!

With the 315's your mpg will go down . If your truck is stock then it will rub on hard turns (full turn ) I'm going with 285-75r -17 bfg mud- terrain t/a km2 . I always have good luck with BFG tires.

The Duratracs will provide the absolute best winter traction you’ve ever had, especially on ice and snow. They grip like no other. However, the size you’re looking at (315s) may be a problem if you plan to put them on stock 8” wide wheels. Duratracs are not the most robust wall (2-ply), and they may flex enough to feel a little unstable from what I’ve read with this size. Mine are stock size (265/70/17), and they are the best running tire I’ve ever had on my truck – and I have had Michelins AT2, Toyo’s MTs sipped, and BFGs. As another here mentioned; your mileage will be impacted with 315s, but I would also comment that running this size also puts undue stress on your suspension and brakes. You may also tempt DW with 315s. Keep this in mind with the Toyo’s too… they are very heavy. When I run mine (295s) I notice the difference big time.

Recently replaced my tires with Toyo open country. I am very happy them. They quiet and helped fuel mileage. I would buy them.
