I purchased the HD 6-speed, a 400.00 option. On mine, reverse is to the right and up. I'm not sure which version it is. I know that I drove an 05 3500 that had the no-cost 6 speed and the reverse on it was to the left and down.

I remember this as I was attempting to back up the 3500 for a test drive and almost put er down over the bank....no R but 2nd.

The dealer and I got into a little argument about the 6-speeds. He said that there was only one 6-speed as he did the ordering so he should know. I questioned him then why the 400.00 up charge for the HD on the mopar site and there was no charge for the 6-speed on his truck.

He suggested I was mistaken....so I purchased my HD from a different dealer. I would appreciate learning which version I have.

I heard mention of a Getrang/Mbenz trans but no mention of another manuf. I did find out that there are two different part numbers for the trans with a difference of about 1000.00, if that helps.

You bought the NV5600. You test drove the G56.

How can I put this: your dealer is uninformed, but not wrong. The NV5600 was the 6 sp at the beginning of the 05 model year. It was replaced by the G56 no earlier than January as my NV5600 was built in Jan. So, yes, there was only one 6 sp at a time. You couldn't choose one or the other if you were going to order.

The G56 is a DC Commercial Vehicle Division tranny, introduced in 2002 in medium-duty Benzes and Freightliners, not a Getrag as some of us thought. The auto (48RE) is an $1100 msrp option. DG8 is the order code.
