air conditioning

All,

I have followed a couple of threads about the poor air conditioning in our rigs. I have an '06 regular cab with 6,100 miles on it. It blows cool air, but not cold. Is it reasonable that some of the 134a has leaked out with all of that sitting? I am going to check it with the cheap gauge I got from Autozone to fill up my '94 Taurus, but I'm afraid of overcharging it. Anyone?

You might overcharge with a cheap gauge. Is it still under warranty with only 6100 miles? If so, let the dealer fix it. if not, start by opening the windows and the hood, puitting the ac on high, and watching the lines. If one of them sweats, then you are charged enuff. There is also a blend door issue that can cause this.

It's hard to believe with a regular cab, and probably the same air conditioning system they put in 4 door trucks, it wouldn't blast me out!

My buddy's 96 reg. cab s10 takes 1 lb of freon r-134a. This is the same amount that my truck supposedly takes according to the sticker in the engine compartment. IMO 1 lb is nowhere near enough for a quadcab. I charged mine earlier this year and added .7 lbs. more by using my a/c manifold gauge set. A/C is nice and cold now.

Doesn't make a bit of difference if the engine core isn't up to temp. I agree this does cool down the air by eliminating the engine coolant from circulating through the heater core once it is hot, but if you are low on coolant, this won't help.
