AC liquid line,oriface

New member here, long time reader, thanks for all the good info and know how.

Just replaced the recirc door, the amp removal had me cursing in tongues but I won.

Now it's time for new comp, acumalator, liquid line. Reason is coil went out and decided to do all the above, I have vac pump, gauges and all parts are here and ready.

Now for my question, Has anybody remved an installed liquid line without removing battery, tray. any tips would be welcomed.
I did all the test, everything pointed to a bad coil in case your wondering it's easier to change out comp than just coil and I would get a fresh start on this pos ac system, 52k miles on 2006 3500 slt sport. Thanks in advance

liqiuid line oriface

Yes had to pull Battery box, filter box, fender well passenger side. compressor, liquid line, acumalotor and all new o-rings went in aprox 3 hours

Now for the vacuum, and 30oz of freon. going to use digital postal scale and put in 31-32oz . Any comments on the extra freon-good-bad(using 12oz cans)

BTW compressor on 2006 had manufacture date 2004, oriface changed from purple to blue. Boudreaux

Liquid line,orifice valve

Thanks Spooler 32ozs it is. A little background on the project, did not flush system because everything came apart clean, no metal or trash in orifice tube or old compressor oil. also tech vaced 28 ozs r134a on a 30oz system so did not bother with new condenser.(Bad clutch coil)

My concern now is guessing on the amount of pag 46 oil to add. only 1oz of oil came out off old compresor, I put 2ozs in new compresor and 2ozs in acumalator. Totol system calls for 180cc=6.08ozs assuming there is 1oz in condenser and 1oz in evaporator the math adds up. since lt is already a done deal, i'll have to live with it.

Would anyone be worried about the amount of oil I installed?

Also the comp that came out is a Halla 52k miles on it. I can get a clutch, coil and bearing for $95 and keeping it as a spare. Is it a POS and not worth the expense and trouble or is Halla factory comp decent.

Thanks Boudreaux

Not sure on the pump but as for the oil, I would not worry at all. Sounds like you did everything right.

Don't overcharge the system with oil. Only need to replace the oil that came out. 2 oz for the compressor should be fine even though one ounce came out. If you didn't flush the system of old oil or replace any other parts besides that one line, don't add any more. It will reduce your effiency and hurt AC performance. How much oil came out of the Accumulator/dryer? Point is, just replace what was removed.

Wink

Thanks for your reply Spooler, The old acumalater Had about 1oz of oil, the liquid line had 0, I cut the old liquid line(both sides) with tubing cutter very carefullly(when it was out of truck) in order to distinguish metal shavings from cutter or ac trash. purpose was to look inside & check orifice valve closser, It was clean but the upgraded color went to blue instead of old purple one,

The guessing was on oil content was really the hardest part.

so pulled out 1oz from pump + 1oz acumalator= 2ozs
added 2ozs to pump + 2ozs to acumalator=4ozs

Am I screwed? havent started vac yet cause we finally got rain today!
I can take the accum back out and drain some oil out. Have spair o-rings etc.

I have aquired a great deal of respect for you proffesional ac techs during this project. My hands to my shoulders look I fought off a mountain lion with a straw. If my evaporator goes some ac tech is going to get my kids college tuition money Thanks Boudreaux

I wouldn't worry about it. You should still be O.K. just don't add any more. Just vaccum it down good for 30min and let it sit for a while. Make sure to close the vaccum line off. If the vaccum holds for 30 mins, then fill her up.

Spooler, read your threads back to 2006 about your ac troubles.

Lucky me, every part I pulled off my 2006 ac was 04.5-05 part #(Bought truck new)
Comp Manufacture date I just pulled out is 2004,orifice tube 0ld style purple 04.5-05 model.

Now I'm wondering if I got the upgraded condenser, Can't find # on the one on truck. This is BS on DC ac engineering! I don't know where you purchased your patience. Pusher fan here I come.

I hope with all the new parts I just thru at it, that my evap coil doesn't grenade.

If it does, Tibideaux says for a small fee he will drive it thru the dodge show room window Boudreaux
