Got the truck today and saw that the previous owner had a 5th wheel kit installed. This kit bolted directly to the frame rails right over the rear axel and 4 holes were bored in the bed and a plastic body liner installed. My question is how best to repair the bed? Weld in pieces, use rubber grommets and sealant, then get a spray in bed?

Another way is install zinc plated carriage bolts with the domed head in each hole.

No can do. Holes are almost 3" in diameter. Must have been one hell of a kit!

I suggest you butt weld 3" replacement pieces in to make the repairs. If done properly, the repairs will look as though the holes were never there to begin with.

Yeah, that's the line I'm taking. No sense slapping blowout patches all over the bed. Then I can get a good spray in bed liner.
