4x4 manual shifter removal

I recently bought a used 2005 3500. The carpet in it was shot so I have decided to replace it. I have removed everything but the manual 4 wheel drive shifter located on the floor. Just curious if anyone knows how to remove it. I tried unscrewing the ball as well as lifting up on the housing that surrounds it. It doesnt seem to budge. Any ideas would be really appreciated.

pop the plastic disc off the 4x4 shifter, then grab a 15mm socket and remove the nut from inside the ****.. then unscrew the ****... then you can remove the boot... the shift lever is bolted to the t-case linkage with a single screw...

How in the H-E-double-hockey-sticks do you get the shift boot off, though???? I've pried with all of my might at every corner and all along the edges with zero luck

there are some steel tabs that hold the bugger down... if i remember right, you need to pry up from the narrow ends [i think i started by the firewall end] and once you get your fingers under it, pull hard...

i grabbed a quick image out of the service manual... once it is approved, you can see it in my members photo gallery

if you want to see the service manual 2003 or 2004, you can google "hemi truck club", find their site, and on their main page, left side under the index, you can find links where you can preview the 03 or 04 service manuals... if they accidently get cache'd on your HD for off line viewing...
