I don't know, maybe we aren't understanding each other. I made the statement before that Ford likes to have a dog in every fight wether it is a winner or not. Dodge has always taken the more conservative approach. I agree, that it would be neat, and we would sell some, but could they make a profit doing it? It takes a lot of sales before you start to recoup the cost of engineering such a thing. And it wouldn't be as simple as just slapping a bed on it either, it is a little more complex than that. I think it is great Ford is making that F450 pick-up, but I don't think in terms of sales volume that that will be their bread and butter.

I have been an RV owner for 25yrs. Been to all sorts of campgrounds. Yes there are a few of the half a million to one million dollar units, but the vast majority of RVers are people who work everyday, and are usually paying for their units like most of us are with some kind of lending institution. Maybe Dodge is missing the boat by not making every type of truck out there like Ford does. But, I got to tell you if you look at the marketing decisions they have made and the financial shape of their company maybe they are doing it right. I do believe however that customers do have a say so, because when these new trucks hit the market you all got to pat yourself on your backs, because had it not been all of us prodding them to make heavier trucks I don't think they would have. I for one think they will sell all the can build and Ford knows they will have a threat one their hands because Dodge fixed their one weak link the transmission. There is one thing I do wish they would address though, they need to put more gages in Dodge trucks. A real trans. temp gage and a pyrometer would not break the bank.

550 conversion
I drove this conversion in Charlotte. One of the finest trucks I have driven. Rode good. The only problem I saw was the supports for the bed to frame. I thought was a little weak.

I gotta admit, I do love that brown saddle leather seating. I prefer the Jeep Commander leather a little better, but it suits pulling a horse trialer soooo well. And its nice and comfy on long rides. The lighter colored plastic looks a little cheap and mis-formed from those pics, but maybe those are pre-production pieces that'll look better on production trucks.

That sounds about what I'm looking for (maybe if it could come 96" or 108" ca), with dumping flatbed with removable side. Assuming a 5500 would be much bigger than the 3500 CC, I would like to see a 7spd manual and ISC upgrade option.

Just picked up my copy of Light and Medium Duty truck Magazine this morning and there is an article in this magazine from DCX CONFIRMING these trucks officially!! It says the 4500 and 5500 will be introduced sometime this month. It appears that these are going to be diesel only trucks no gas engine was mentioned. 4500 GVW 16,500 lbs. 5500 GVW 19,500 lbs. Wow is this good news or what!!!

4500/5500
I have been thinking since the day I first saw a new 3500 Chassis/cab and closely looked at the frame and springs I just knew DC would introduce a 4500/5500 soon. http://www.gorowan.com/2007ram I am glad to see the higher GVWs/GCVWs but I don't think I or momma will like the "commercial ride" for a daily driver. I am sticking with converting my 3500 into a 3500HD. ("Excuse me" a custom 5500XD.) I started last night. Re-badging last night - 988AA springs on order. 7.5"x19.5s x Gs by spring. My buddy at Charlotte Spring is going to design rear spring set like I put on my 2004.5 2500.
Momma wants a super duty 3500 that rides decent. Maybe in a couple of years when the 6.7L and 6 speed auto is broke-in and selling like hotcakes.????

After reading the AllPar article, I'm a little bummed out about the engine in the 4500/5500. Still at 610ft/lbs of torque and 305hp. I'm glad to see there is a 4500 and 5500. I'm disappointed there is not a real crew cab or at least it seems that way.
Maybe Sterling will build the truck under its name with some more guts and a crew cab. I need a crew cab to pull my fiver with 26,000lbs GCWR. It don't look like I'm going to find it with the name Dodge on it. Bummer.

We have one at the training center(sitting here right now). It is a 2wd regular cab. The rear end has a Spicer tag on it and it looks like a 2.5 ton Rockwell(10 lug pattern as well). Hopefully that makes it into production and not what looks like a AAM in the previous link.
