31 MPG in a 3rd Gen

Check out this thread I found on DieselRam.com. Sorry I do not know how to paste the thread here.
However, go to the 3rd Gen section and click the thread labeled 31 mpg in a 3rd gen.

I do know that Dr. Performance/Predator when they were putting there fuel boxes together, for the 04.5, they were getting those kinda fuel mileage #s, but that was in the testing stage.

I believe that the post relates to a previous one that goes into more detail how a guy out west, changes the engine cam and crank timing to get the higher milage. I think it is a very time consuming and costly job to have done. It would be nice if he'd share more details about the procedure that was done

I got over 35 MPG for a short time, but it was going down hill to Baker from Las Vegas... about an 18 mile downhill. After that it went back to 12 MPG due to the 32 foot 5th wheel I was towing.

If you read closely he is driving a 98 12 valve truck. Now, I don't believe it either but 12 valvers get much better mileage than 24 valvers. I had a new 92 5 speed w/ 3:54 gears that got 22 mpg city so it may be close to being true.....

Actually he is referring to his 05, not his 98. I find this very hard to believe.

I have gotten 28 MPG holding 35 MPH in 5th gear, cruise control on. This was in Yellowstone Park, before it was open to the public this year, and I was going up and down hills.

Reminds me of a gent I was talking to in A Georgia rest stop at midnight recently . Pulls up next to me in a 2500 in the same color as mine with the 600 also ,commenting about the duals on my truck and the 7 ft high pallet in the bed . Proceeds to rell me how he gets 24 mpg doing 85 mph ........ !!!!
