2004 HO Trucks

Wow....there are still some 2004 305/555 trucks out there...but you better hurry!

I was at the Dealer yesterday looking for a 305/555 to see if I could get a better deal than the 600 I have ordered. the dealership found me 2 duallies within 1000 miles that were Laramies.....that was it. I almost caved and got a Silver one, but I decided that the Red really does look good and I can wait a couple of more weeks!

He had over 150 trucks on the lot and NO duallies, all were HO with a couple of 6 speeds, most Autos.

If you are worried about the fuel mileage of the 600, better get buying now.

If I was looking for a new truck, I'd jump all over a left over 2004. Based on what I have read about the 600 motor, they couldn't give me one.

But, alas, don't need a new truck.

Ford's website shows their 6.0 diesel puts out 325 HP @ 3300 RPM and 560 LBS FT torque @ 2000 RPM.

(All numbers go to zero within a couple of months )

Ok, can someone fill me in on what's so wrong with the 600? I've been reading this forum and I guess I'm just missing it.

Before it came out there was the fear of EGR, no EGR came to be. We should be happy right? And the extra power/torque. And the potential of e-brakes for the 48RE on those trucks as well. There was a hesitation issue that seems fixed. And a concern about a "bucket of bolts" sound, which is probably just the 3rd injection event. It's the same block, and very similar other components to the "old" HO. Same bosch HPCR injection system, for example. There was a hesitation issue that was fixed with a reflash.

Sure there are some bad eggs, but there are bad eggs with anything, even the old motors.

The mileage seems low from a few posts I've read, but then again many reported low mileage when their "old" Cummins motors were new. And some depends on driving and the like. Plus many are running winter blended fuel too.

Or is there some issue I'm missing?

I was watching one of those "Motor trend" type shows on the speed network?, or discovery. they were introducing a new f450, or f550 , something like that.......it was LATE .then the head ford guy began giving his shpeal about the NEW 350, 600 PSD.

you can try searching the net......wish i had MORE info fer you

I don't think you are missing anything. The only bad I have read is the MPG's.
Some now are reporting 17 as they get more miles on them.
The nice thing about the 600 is that the cummins engine controller also controls the auto so you have just the one controller making drive train software integration better IMO. They are so very close at the moment in fine tuning software changes to that single controller that will allow for an exhaust brake with the auto.

I've got no dought the "Pre-emmisions" trucks are going to hold there resale value really well given a couple more years.
Those who believe the '04.5 poor mileage will get better... well, at least there trying to be optomistic! and If I had dropped $40K on a new truck because "its the new Cummins 600!" fever had hit me I'd be trying to be as optomistic as I could to!!!
Point in case:
Value of a 1969, or even '70 GTO, camaro, mustang, you name it.
Value of a 1974 anything doubles when the gas tank is full.

Well if that is true then I will be the first to trade my 03 for an 04.5 but I don't think any of those 600 owners will want mine over theirs.

I get 19.5 with mine but that sure didn't happen off the lot, took some break in time.
Not to put mine down as its the CA SO model. I really like it and plan on a 15yr keep. I will just make some mods for more power vs having factory warrantied power.

New Powerjoke 600

I found some information on a new Powerjoke with 600 lbs and 350 hp but according to the article, its only in a dumb concept truck so far that appeared at an auto show. Here's links two articles I found:

http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m.../article.jhtml

http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/auto...ord/tonka.html

The at the bottom of the second article notice the mention of EGR! Ha!

Thanks for the links, interesting info about the HLA system. I wonder how emergency crews would like working around a compromised HLA system in a wreck?
