2003 Double Din Navigation install..
2003 Double Din Navigation install..
Not a bunch of pics yet, and they kinda suck because I didn't know where my wife had put the camera so I used my phone.
I have seen this done a few times online. I'm going about it just a little different.
I am using the old install kit from my Corvette. I cut everything off of it but the actual piece that goes around the unit itself. This is allowing a nice sharp line around the unit. This will then be glassed into the existing center bezel. By using an existing intall piece, it puts the outside of that piece, even with the outside of the existing factory radio bezel. I'm hoping this will allow for a much less "filled" look when I'm done.
I had to trim plastic from the top and bottom of the plastic to let the unit tilt to match the angle of the factory console with the faceplate in place. I was able to keep the piece across the top of the main bezel assembly. This small piece runs from side to side and supports the upper part of the stereo bezel.
I am trying to also use the mounting brackets from the Vette kit, but it's looking like I will be making some because of the angle of unit.
I'll get more pics as work progresses. I'm not in a huge hurry.
The round hole in the factory center bezel will be going away. That button has moved to the old Pacbrake switch hole. The little red switch is to activate train horn relays. No horn yet
TIP: When I measured out the hole I needed cut and got it centered, I used a silver paint pen to mark the line. I marked the "valley" of the texturing of the bezel. With the paint, it was really easy to follow the line(s) and get a really nice cut.

Has anyone tried the double din bezel from Meyerhoff World sold on ebay? I know it's a little pricey at $190 including shipping from Germany. But, if it fits OK, it could save a lot of tedious work.

Yes it is updateable.
I do have a TomTom that I keep in my work truck.
I already had this unit gathering dust since I pulled it out of my Corvette before I sold it.
Plus, I have a camera to help me line up on my gooseneck ball since I can't see it due to the tool box.

Long time since update due to injury, but much better now.
Latest pic.
I'm really pleased with the way it is coming along. Using the trim from the Corvette worked very well. Kept me from having to try to cut a perfectly square hole.
