2003 dodge ram 2500, headlights only work on bright, electrical problems, help :(

just bought a 2003 not 2 months ago, and i came home from doing a run to the local store and look down when im pulling in the drive way and it says lamp out.

and its blinking lamp out now.

heres whats wrong, regular headlights dont work, Brights work.

driver side blinkers on front and back DONT WORK,

the brake lights DONT work on the tail lamps, but they do on the top of the cabin.

but the running lights do work in the front and back....

passenger side blinker on the back works, but the front blinker doesnt???!?!

the backup lights work on the tail lamps :/

please someone inform me of whats could be wrong!

Ive checked every fuse in the "fuse" box, and none of them are blown...

I cant drive the **** truck now because it now has no blinkers and no headlights... and no brake lights... ***..

yea... so i need your guys help...

what could be causing this?

Cliff notes---------

1)checked all light bulbs none are blown
2)checked all fuses, none are blown, but do i check relays too?
3) what could be causing this???

you FWD CONTROL Module is probably bad, there are no relays in the system. The Module is mounted in the bottom of the PDC (fusebox). Do you have any codes if you do the code check? to do the code check turn the ignition key ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON without turning the key to start and it will show the codes in the odometer window.

Hey there Journier. Sounds like you got a fierce electrical gremlin happening. First thing to do is run the electrical system check. Hold down the odometer reset button and turn your key on but don't engage the starter. After the gauge cluster does its thing look at the odometer window and be ready to write down the numbers its displays. Report back and I'll pm you the code list.

It Might be your light switch since 3 of the 4 errors are related to it.

It still could be the Fwd control module. but the light switch is simple to change all you have to do is pull the panel (It uses metal clips to hold it in place) that the lightswitch is mounted to and disconnect the plug from the back of the switch.Try disconnecting the switch and see what your lights do, If I disconnect my switch the lights come on and sets off the lights on chime. Do you have the light chime when you open the door with the lights off?how about on?

I had similar problems. One dealer couldn't find the problem after having the truck four days. Another dealer found it in 5 minutes. Bad instrument cluster. Replaced it and everything is fine.

hmm

ok i unplugged the light switch, my door chime came on along with all my interior lights

dont know how to know if the lightswitch is broke or not?

ill plug it in and try seeing if the door chime comes on with the lights on or off.
EDITed!!

door chime is off when the lights are off, door chime is on with interior cabin lights on...

dont think the switch is bad...

any help = grateful

i hope its not the dash i have a feelin thats a big dollar item, this is so annoying. (out of warranty)

EDIT #2 I talked to a service guy, and he told me something about a MULTI SWITCH thats under the dash on the steering column, and that would be causing the blinkers to possibly not work...

really need to know how to check and see if the FWD CONTROL MODULE is bad,

its 166.00 but need to find out if its bad first. the light switch is 36.00

umm.. any help appreciated :/

I replaced both the multi-function switch (in the column and controls turnsignals, hazards, brights, wipers) and the headlight switch. Niether helped. I called a tech at a particular dealer on advice from the salesman I bought the truck from. He suspected the cluster by my description over the phone. Since he replaced it, everything has worked flawlessly. He told me the problem is somewhat common in Chysler vehicles. I have a friend that had a similar problem in a Jeep Wrangler. He replaced the cluster and that fixed his problem.

I know you don't want to hear it, but I would bet good money that the problem lies in the cluster.

If you want, I have two multi-function switches and a headlight switch I'll sell you and you can try those. They are the ones I replaced when I thought that was my problem.

the light switch should be good. and you multi function switch isn't bad either IMHO The Cluster sounds feasible.

I read a thread over at TDR about a hotshotter stuck in BC with almost the same problems. I don't have a subscription there but maybe someone who does can get some help for this guy.
