20" tire suggestions

I have Nitto 420S tires on my truck now. They are 275/55R20 load range D. They did not last very long. I need some new tires and I'm having a hard time finding some. Any suggestions? I would like to put 275/60R20 on there to get a little taller tire. I'm a little confused about the tire information out there. I don't mind a D range tire because I don't really tow much. I am being told that the tires have to be rated LT or have a E rating. Discount Tire says they will not mount anything other than an E range on my truck even though they were the ones who put my wheels and tires on in the first place. I have a friend that has the Continental ContiCross Contact LX tires on his and he says that he likes them. But, Discount said that they still would not mount that tire. It has an XL rating but not an LT rating. I don't know what these mean. It actually has a higher max weight rating than my Nittos which are XL rated too. Am I just being punked by Discount? I would not mind using the Nitto DuraGrapplers but I don't want to pay almost $300 per tire.

I'm running 295/60-20 Nitto Terra Grapplers (E) on the '07 and like them alot. The thing about the 20s and the load range issue is you can run a 55 or 60 series aspect, have a relatively stiffer sidewall and a good-sized tire, even in load range D. Discount is definitely punking you, because their requirement is based on an OEM tire size and wheel. Do what I did and just take the wheels in to get them mounted, bring them home and put them on yourself, if of course, you have another truck or friend making that possible. I still think a load range E tire is more appropriate for an HD pickup, regardless of any arguments true or false otherwise.

Thanks. I would not mind spending the money on the DuraGraplers if they are worth it, but I just dropped over $1500 on tires for my Jeep.

OUCH on that price!

My 34" Dura's cost me $208 each mounted, balanced, out the door.

I don't see why you couldn't run a D tire if you realize the weight you are subjecting it to.

Some Discounts will mount anything, and some won't. Maybe they had problems in the past.

Not sure if they have Toyo Proxes in that size or not, but im loving mine so far
(305/50/20) Ill probably step up in size next time if possible too, just because theres still plenty of room for more tire.

What Discount Tire is doing is covering there back side, the truck came from the factory with E rated tires and the door plate also states the tires need to be X size or bigger and to be E or better, thus they will only put on E or better as they don't want to get sued from putting on improper rated tires.

The Dura Grapplers are great tires, just wasn't much on the look on my truck, so I now run 285/55r20 terra grappler in E. Wear is noticeably better, as is ride comfort. I do rub a little in the front fenderwells but not enough to alarm me. The look for me is just killer. And I get into wet situations where the extra grip helps.

Oh I also flipped my rear spacers, now my travel trailer sits perfectly level. Top pic was without spacers flipped and trailer still attached.

Well that sure is a sweet looking ride....

Yeah, for looks the Dura Grapplers fall way short.

Say, you said you 'flipped' the rear spacers. What? How? I kind of like that lower rear end. I have bags so I can control the height ( I tow a 5ver with 3,000 of pin weight) but that lower rear would make it ride more level and make getting in and out of the bed easier....

If you look on the rear axle leafs you will see the spacers I'm talking about, its under the leaf pack. I jacked the truck up in the back (at the differential) then put jack stands under the frame to support the weight. Then I started on one side, pulled the u bolts and unbolted the shocks and dropped the axle enough to get the spacers loose. When you get the spacers out put them on top (the spacers have a weird bushing sticking out to keep it center, if I remember correctly you have to either take them out or flip them also), then you put everything back together. I did one side then the other. Tooks a few hours cause I cleaned alot up.

Pics are with the spacers on top, bringing the ride heighth down about an inch.
