150k report, FIRST BEAKDOWN
150k report, FIRST BEAKDOWN
Hello All,
I'm just short of 150k, so I thought I would give you a report. First, I had my first breakdown at 145k, but it was my fault, not the trucks. At my 100k report, I was advised to change the belt and idler. Well, I changed the belt (which still looked great), but got lazy and did not change the idler. This past Memorial day weekend, we were towing a trailer (final trip moving from FL to CO) on I-475 outside Macon GA, when the idler froze. That tore up the belt so I lost streering and brakes, and spent a long weekend in a motel with an unhappy wife and two miserable dogs. Note to self; pay attention to the advice you get on this board!
The other problems have been a second replacement set of front outside U-Joints at 140k, and rear U-joins also at 140k. That's it for problems. Still with original brakes and clutch. The only other thing to note is I'm now on my second set of Goodyear SilentArmor and love them! The first set got 56k, very quiet on the highway and outstanding traction in the snow.

It seems we often read about the negatives and problems everyone has had, so it's nice to see the positive reports - Thanks!!
Enjoy Colorado - I moved away five years ago and still miss it. Thankfully, I get to go home at least once a year in the Fall to see family and for the big game hunting season.
