Question 06 trailer wiring

Alright ive read about the changes in the 06 wiring with them getting rid of fuses and such. My question is then whats the best way to change the wiring without shorting out the IPM? My truck came with the 4 flat plug and i want to change it to either the large 7 round or the 6 round and add a brake box. Is there just a harness or something that plugs in down the line or does it require splicing and whatnot? Am i overcomplicating this? I dont want to blow something. Thanks

I know how you feel. I'm assuming your truck didn't come with a factory installed tow package.
