06 Throws Heat

I was sitting in my Bro's 06 for about 15 minutes at idle(I know, that's not good) while he went in to a store. The outsidse temp. was 25F. The truck stayed at regular RPM, and I had to turn the heat down to lowest fan speed, and had the "red-blue" dial down to 1/4. If this was the case with my 03, or any of the earler CTD's, the truck would have been ICE cold thru the blower. Is this the case with all the 06's, or is this NEW?? Also, his initial mileage continues to be better than my 03 at 30,000miles, and I think mine is great. Are other people experiencing such great improvements? QUIET, and it was made in Mexico! It must have been made on a Wednesday, when the Big Cochino was inspecting the factory??!!

That was a big issue on the 2nd & 03.... trucks. It came to be accepted as one of those-"oh well" things. I think it's a GREAT improvement! The air leaks on the cab were another thing we thought DODGE just could not fix, and let's just "turn up the music!". I see a lot of things that are fixed, including the MPG on this truck my brother got in January, How could there be such issues on the fuel mileage to the point that I Warned him, and he is getting as good MPG's as he did with the 2nd gen 12valves?? (I have nothing to gain by bragging about his truck! )

My heater just about ran me out of the truck yesterday with an outside temp of 35 I had the heater turned into the blue and I was still almost in a sweat. Very quiet inside compared to my wifes 04 and the doors shut alot easier.

That's true JDN! And when they close, the truck is very well sealed. They have fixed a lot of the little issues, and I wonder if they have done something with the timing, as I sure did not expect him to get such excellent mpg- especially right from the start.

I have an 06 see sig that I just took on its first long trip 500 miles up to Bossier City, La and was averaging 16.5mpg. Not to bad only 2,500 miles on the truck. This truck is a great improvement over the 04 of my wifes, KUDOS to DODGE!!! There are a few more refinements they could do, but hey they are normally behind the creature comfort curves than the other manufactures but they are getting better every year.

"06" Mpg

I've got 1950 miles on mine as of now and I'm getting 16.5 local driving. That's hand calculated. The overhead says, 17.7 most of the time. It's to quite but I'm sure that will change with time. The heater works real well. Still finding places to store things. There is hidden storage all over this Quad Cab. I'm never taking this truck over the Canadian border. They would have me there for a week just looking for the storage places.

When the 3'd Gens first came out, people were discovering some of those storage spaces long after they got thedir truck.LOL!

WOW 20mpg that is pretty darn good. I am happy with 16.5 and hoping to get to 19-20mpg eventually, but I didn't buy the truck for MPGs I bought it work I look at the MPGs as a bonus. Cool though at 20mpg for a truck this big!!!

I know what you mean about buying the truck to haul or do work. I'd say about 90% of the time he's hauling. With fuel prices the way they are, those extra mpg's are a bonus!

That is completely true about the cost of Diesel, Ouch $68.00 to fill it up down here and that only lasts about a week. 2.32 a gallon. Still not as bad as it is up north and on the east and west coast.

The price really varies where I live. Flying "J"'s was 71.9cents per litre yesterday, other places as much as 89.9cents per litre. And were "sitting on it" up here. (By the way, if I do the 20% conversion up to Imperial gallons, that's 24mpg LOL!)
