06 rides too rough on freeway
My brother-in-law says his 06 is excessively bumpy when driving over expansion joints on the freeway in San Diego. His truck is totally stock except for a set of BFG alterains that are 315 wide. I suggested lowering air pressures to soften the ride if they are already toward the upper limit (although now that I think about it, raising pressures toward the upperr limit might help control some of the bouncing), consider looking for a softer set of shocks, and on the radical end of things, consider disconnecting the sway bars when not hauling or towing. Is there anything else that could be done?

The shocks are already way too soft. The sway bar does not control bouncing, so that won't help.
Maybe he should just remember that he bought a big heavy duty truck, not a luxo car. How could a truck ride like a cloud and have big tires and do heavy work? It's a truck.

Wetspirit is right. It's a heavy duty truck. It does ride nice for a 3/4 ton IMHO. He could swap to some bilsteins. That should help some. Disconnecting the swaybars won't help. If he really wants to change the ride get a suspension setup from Don Thuren, Carli Suspension, or Kore Performance. Those are in the order of my preference. Even if he does go that route, it's still a heavy duty truck.

In my opinion these 3rd gen trucks are designed to run too smooth on the highway as it is. The Soccer mom/dad “urbanifacation” of these trucks makes them just about worthless in the snow or off-road. (Not to mention the front ends that bottom out.) The rear springs are too soft causing axel wrap and hopping.
By buddy has a ’99 similar to yours and has never had an issue in the snow or off-road, but then again his truck rides like a “real-truck.” too. Another buddy of mine had a ¾ ton truck from the 1980’s, that thing rode like crap until you had 1000 lbs ion the bed, but you could do anything with that beast. The 3rd gen trucks can be brought back from the urbanifacation, but it takes aftermarket parts and coin.
If he wants a nice ride tell him to take off those 315s to reduce the un-sprung weight.

San Diego isnt the only area that has rough roads.
Anywhere is So Cal is that way.
I travel on the 101 and 118 and they both cause the truck to bounce and buck.
I keep reminding myself "you got a heavy truck"

Aftermarket suspension.
My new '07 beat me to death empty on the freeways here in San Diego. Conversely, adding my popup completely maxxed out the stock suspension,go figure! My signature says what I went with. All the manufacturers offer better front coils and minipaks for the rear. Research it and go with what you want.

I cut the ends off of the bottom OLs so now they are just spacers and added bags. I wanted bags anyway and the truck doesn't need OLs AND bags. That helped a lot! Craig
