'06 Computer Issues

Friends,

I have a '06 2500 4x4 QC CTD SLT on which I have been attempting to disable the horn chirp when locking the doors with the key FOB. I have followed the directions as given inn the owners manual to the letter with no success (I never hear the "chime" that you are supposed to hear at the end.) I realize that taking it to the dealer for a computer relash is an option, but I am a little hesitant to do that as the truck only has a couple thousand miles on it but is averaging around 17.0mpg in combined city/hwy driving. Having read of some other peoples experiences with 06's and fuel mileage, I would prefer to keep the dealer away from my truck's computer.

Would disconnecting both batteries cause the computer to perform a "soft" reset or is there some sort of battery backup?

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I really don't think I'm doing anything wrong. I have an '03 3500 CTD Lariat sitting right next to the '06 that I disabled the chirp on using the exact same procedure, and it worked like a charm on the first attempt.

Still confused.

I'd take it to the dealer and see if they can program it with the key fob for you real quick. I set mine so the chirp is off the day I got it home with no problem.

I don't remember hearing a chirp, but when it reset, the doors unlocked.

I have the exact same truck and finally got mine to disable last night....here is how to do it.

1. Lock truck with key fob and stand outside of truck
2. Depress and hold the LOCK button for at least 4 seconds but not more than 10 seconds.
3. Depress the PANIC button simultaneously while still holding the LOCK button.
4. Release the PANIC and LOCK buttons simultaneously

This is the ONLY way out of three different ways I found in documentation that worked....PM me if you want me to call and help but it is fairly easy. Owners manual had a version that had you sitting inside and listening for chime...a second way that had you outside but using LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. Then last night I found an OWNERS MANUAL ADDENDUM that had this routine and it worked...MIRACLES OF MIRACLES. Now I dont bleed from the ears and wake the neighbors when locking the doors.

GOOD LUCK.

All,

Brock's method of disabling the chirp upon locking the doors worked like a charm the first time I tried it. I also discovered that if you don't like the parking lights to flash upon lock/unlock, you can stand outside the truck, hold the unlock button for >4sec, but <10 sec. Then, while holding the unlock button, push and hold the lock button. After a second or two, release both buttons and your park lights will not flash with key FOB use. Repeat above procedure to reenable.

Thanks again Brock! I posted this question on another board and will post a link to your explanation.

Cheers,

Bill

You should have had a yellow insert in with your owner's manual that gave the "updated" instructions on how to disable the horn and unlock all doors at the same time...
