03 with Cracked Dash?

I'm looking a an 03 3500 and while talking to the guy that's selling it he tell me that the dash is cracked. I asked how bad so he sent me a couple of pics, it's pretty bad. Was this a problem with the 3rd gens like it was with the 2nd gens? My 01 had just started to crack when I sold it 2 weeks ago. Is it an easier fix on the 3rd gens? Tell me what you guys think. Thanks.

Yes, early 3rd gens have the cracking dash issue.

The cheapest solution (if the dealer doesn't replace it under warranty) is to get a one piece cover from Geno's garage.

Ok, thanks guys. If it was a common issue I'm not to worried about it. I just didn't want to possibly buy something that had been beat to death. Other than that the truck is really straight and clean.

i have a 03. when i bought it the dash was busted like that. I bought a 05 dash from a salvage yard for 150.00 to fix mine.. its fairly easy to do in a day. Just have a extra set of hands around to help you in and out with the dash

So many dashes have cracked there are a few companys making plastic covers that go over the cracked dash that look just like the dactory dash. Geno's has one and Coverlay makes one. Mine cracked, Dashmat fix.

Definately a dashmat or Coverlay. Mine cracked, Dodge fixed out of warranty. I called to **** and moan at them and the finally fixed with me paying a minor deductible. It took them over a year to get the pieces. Which I never figured out.

So it won't happen again, I hope. I added a dashmat to it.

Looks just like my 03 (started in 2009). A bunch of tape and covered it with a dash cover which I really like...should have done it 7 years ago. Keeps things from sliding around a protects it from sun damage.

Mine's cracked too. I've been waiting to see pictures of someone that's done the Geno's molded dash cover but no one seems to have tried it. I decided to be the guinea pig and ordered one this morning. I don't care for the carpet style covers and I really don't care for the cost of a replacement dash. The Geno's cover appears to be a good alternative.

Now that just about every dash has cracked. I was wondering if there is a "best" plastic dash cover to get. I have yet to see any before and after pictures. I am thinking of doing mine and am thinking of using epoxy on the cracks first, then using a good silicone to secure the cap. I guess if the vent doors brake I will really be screwed. Has anyone removed the dash for HVAC repair after installing a new plastic cap? Maybe there will be a recall,,,LOLOLOL and LMAO.

Talking

My 01 is all cracked up, epoxied the cracks, put a stuffed animal over it on one side and a hat on the other. I forgot it was even cracked, does not make noise anymore.

I took pictures of mine before and after showing the install of the Geno's cover. I'll see if I can't dig them up and post pictures.

There are things I like about it and things I don't like. The biggest problem I have is that it's one solid piece that covers the front and back of the dash. I would have preferred one that was two pieces. That way I would be able to remove them separately and it would help with rattling. It rattled bad after I first installed it but it seems to have gotten better after it's gotten hot outside. I did use some JB Weld on the cracked dash prior to the install to try to minimize the vibrations.
