Howdy all,

first post...I just bought a 2003 Ram 3500 119k miles Friday afternoon.The cruise control light comes on when activated but the crusie will not engage at any speed under any conditions. It worked during the test drive before I bought it. The dealer let me take it home & it quit working during this time. I agreeded to fix it myself when he took another 1000 of the price. I bought this truck as is.

The truck is in great shape and does not look it's age!

Any idea where to start looking?

Since it is an auto, you have a vacuum pump on the passenger side near the firewall. Some common things I've heard are a fuse, bad vacuum pump, and a broken or holes in the vacuum lines from the vacuum pump. I guess it's possible for a problem with the switches on the steering wheel. When you turn on cruise do you get the word CRUISE on the dash. Good luck.

Yes the "cruise" lights up when I turn on the cruise

 

I could not find a diganostic for the cruise but on several viechels I've had if the upper brake lights are out the cruise wont opperate. The ones above the back window.
