Sooo, please correct me if I am wrong, but what I think I have pieced together is that you can unplug your EGR, and if you have an Insight you can clear the code and you won't have a CEL?
If so, then I will order one ASAP. I plan on getting an Insight anyhow, but haven't found the $$$ in the couch cushions yet.

You will always have the CEL because the EGR is unplugged and the ECM knows this. There are EGR foolers being developed right now but they are not out yet. Once they are perfected than we should not see anymore codes or CELs....
What GMScott said was that before going to the dealer he could plug the EGR back in and then clear the codes with the Insight...

Haven't read the whole thread, but it is my understanding that if your truck is a 07.5 you must remove the butterfly. I did and I have the Juice w/att that clears codes on startup. I never get a check engine light or codes.
As far as the butterfly goes, if it is still trying to actuate it, you can do some turbo damage. So please make sure it does not need to come out if you are a 7.5 truck.

I unplugged last week. (thanks Zilla! )

I do mostly 60-65 mph where I live....with the occasional small city driving in town. But mostly I am 60 mph (2 way rural roads) or higher on the highways.

My overhead has gone from 13.4-14.3 (60 mph or in town driving) to 18.5 I did a lot of 60 mph rural roads over the weekend and saw as high as 18.8.

I'm not sure what kind of damage this "unplugging" is causing but the milage is sooooooo much better. I might actually go over a week without filling up. Yeah....right....

I will be towing our 31' travel trailer this weekend so I will see what I'm getting while towing.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Zilla and GMScott. Makes me think a 6.7 could one day be in my driveway.

Unplugging the EGR will only stop it from dumping soot into the engine. No Damage will occur. Only GOOD THINGS happen.

Patriot2500, when the 6.7 can breathe it is an awesome truck. Go test drive one. It is amazing how much stock power there is. So much power that, I know you guys still don't believe me, I still have no plans to add any extra power. I had to pull into 55mph traffic this AM and on a turn I can literally roast the tires if I choose. I love this thing...

My hand calculated MPG went up 2.5 (16 to 18.5 mixed) and that's using a GPS so I know it's an accurate finding. I just live with the light.

I test drove one a while back and loved the stock power, engine quietness, and factory exhaust brake. Still like my 04.5 for now, but she may make me mad and I will trade it in on a new one. Thanks again for the info.

will i be able to just unplug my EGR and the butterfly stay open with my truck being an 08'

If you have the latest flash, most likely. However it seems every truck is different. Unplug it and if it starts running like crap, plug it back in. It's the only way to know.
