Turbo Needs Cleaning

I'm just at 66,000 kms (40,000 miles) and having driveabilty issues. I did suspect the turbo due to what was happening. Took it to the dealer and the tech test drove and says for sure it's the sliding ring in the turbo getting hung up. So, the truck is getting the turbo cleaned for the tune of almost $500. And I have an early 2007 so they'll have to drill the hole in the turbo, etc. Right after this is done, I'm installing the XRT PRO, EGR/Cooler Delete, turbo back exhaust delete and the Shibby throttle valve delete. FASS is also on my mind as I still have the old style OEM filter and it's time for a change.

My question is...once I do the deletes, is turbo cleaning going to be a thing of the past OR is turbo cleaning inherent with these VG turbos? Seems to me the sliding ring is on the exhaust side of the turbo so the deletes would have minimal effect on it getting dirty again.

Appreciate the advice.

You will not have problems after the delete, how often do you use your exhaust brake? The more you use it the better for your turbo

Exhaust brake use

I use my exhaust brake a lot. So much so that the little picture that lights up on the button is worn off.... I often drive in tow/haul even without a load. That lets the exhaust brake work even more and my wheel brakes work less.

There is a modification that allows the exhaust brake to come on everytime you start the truck without pushing the button. I tried searching for it several times and netted no results. Its on here somewhere. I think Blake Clark did the mod and I did it on my truck as well. Its a matter of putting relay in the switch behind the dash...easy to do and works well. Maybe someone else can post the link to the tech write up on it.

I have a question...can a person clean a VGT off the truck? I have a spare here and got to thinking if I removed the electronics/actuator assembly on the side of the turbo...could I immerse it in a degreaser?

Probably need a de-carborizing fluid to break down the soot. Also the calibration of the turbo has been questioned with the actuator removed and moving the sliding ring. Not sure if the stop to stop motion and install of the actuator is something that needs the good book from Holset to do properly.

From what I have read, the mod that is here on the DTR in the Gen 3 6.7 section won't work with the Gen 4 systems. Not sure on that.

thats why i love the latest update from H&S, my mini maxx now comes with an exhaust brake memory function, if it was on when you shut the truck off it comes back on when you start it again, i thought about putting in the relay.....but im lazy like that haha
