Quiet exhaust system?

I'm getting ready to do the deletes. Not looking for extra performance, rather I want to avoid egr problems and make the truck last forever. I don't want the truck to get very loud. Who sells a fairly quiet system for a 2008 Quad cab? Or should I just use delete pipes and retain the stock muffler? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Thumbs up

I did down pipe and dpf delete leaving everything else behind that stock. Cant hardly tell a difference except for the exhaust brake whistle. Sounds like a turbine. Small price to pay. There are mufflers that will suppress that noise but I'm not too worried about it. Good luck, you will have no regrets.

like said above. can get a downpipe and delete pipe for about $235 shipped and that is going to be the quietest you will find. I have 5" flow pro turbo back with muffler (flow thru muff like factory) and its still quiet

When I had my '08, I started with the delete pipe only and kept the down pipe and everything else. Louder than stock but not nearly as loud as the full 5"tbe I did later. I was looking for that just right sound, never could seem to find it, though. Closest I could get was the 5" with a aeroturbine 5050 muffler, Still kinda loud, though. For what it sounds like you want, I'd just do the delete pipe and keep everything else in place.

When I do the deletes on this truck, I'm planning using the delete pipe then upping to the 5" at about where the stock muffler started. Heard that setup in a sound clip on the web and it sounded pretty good (to me). Hopefully it will sound OK in real life, once it's all done.

I did a 4" Diamond Eye turbo back w/ their muffler. It's a little bit louder than stock but nothing like I thought it would. Check out Rollin Smoke Diesel, they have some good kits available and great customer service.

Thanks 2 all! Question for StevenK

Thank you guys for the replies, very helpful. StevenK...are you happy with your RideRite bags? I need to level when pulling my 5th wheel. She sits nose high now annoying other drivers with headlights. Thanks.

^^^ The ride rites are the way to go. Make sure you have the controller that controls each bag separately or bad things happen.

DPF delete pipe?

Does what everyone sells as a "DPF delete pipe" actually replace the NOX and DPF or does it just replace the DPF only. I want to delete both the NOX and DPF right? Thanks again.

Correct, the pipe replaces the NOX/DPF and leaves the CAT in the down pipe. TBE (turbo back exhaust) replaces just that...

decisions, decisions....

Are stainless exhaust components worth the extra money? Living in very dry west Texas I would think that aluminized steel would be adequate but maybe there is something about diesel exhaust that makes stainless better. What do you guys think.

Looking through the forums and reading the mags there is so much info. It's causing info overload. Separating the hype from reality is hard work. Now that I'm ready to pull the trigger on mods for my truck I want to make sure I spend my money wisely and not waste it on junk or unnecessary stuff. I don't mind spending the money to make my truck last as long as it's money well spent.

My delete pipe is a Pro-flo unit that is a pretty thick wall, and it is just aluminized and should last a very long. SS is nice looking and lasts longer if that is what you want or need.

I'm very happy with my RideRite bags, I bought them for my 4200lb camper so I'm sure they would handle leveling out a 5th wheel setup really well.

I would delete everything in the exhaust including the Cat in the downpipe. Look at turbo back exhaust kits. It's a little bit more work to get the downpipe out but you will be glad you did it.

I live in the high desert and they don't salt any roads around here so I went with the aluminized pipe on my exhaust. I just felt like it would last for many years in this area. Dry Texas climate would probably be a good reason to save some money and skip the stainless pipe also, IMHO.
