PYRO Temps

I was told and have read that 1450 is a good place to set the warning on gauges. My question is: is this alittle low and conservitive. The 6.7L with the add ons that I have it gets there real quick. I have heared that Al starts to melt at 1600 Degrees. How accurate is this Info.

I have seen 1450 a few times but just for a few seconds. My truck will defuel @ 1350-1380. The only times it gets there is towing a 5th wheel @ 75mph and trying to pull a 5% grade or better.

Aluminum melts at 1220* if I remember right. In cylinder temps are hotter that what is reading on the egt gauge, but you also have oil jets spraying on the underside of the piston. Myself, I won't sustain over 1200*, but that might be on the conservative side.

1450 is a pretty safe spot to set the defuel. The newer trucks are setup to run much hotter than the old trucks. Stock you can see 1350 on them. Before I put the delete pipe in I saw 1750 when it went into regen for a second.

Regens are around 1350 at the pyro. And actually the in cylinder temps will be less at this point due to the low firing pressure and zero boost coupled with the late 4th injection event when the exhaust valves open.

The Regen cycle is a different animal than under full load. Full load defuel I would still maintain about 1250. Heat and pressure is what will kill the engine components. No load Regens are not that destructive. If you watch the EGT's under REGEN, as soon as you need to load the engine, the EGT backs off until you reduce the load.
