Home Grown 6.7?

Ok I have a question that some of you will know about. I have a tired 5.9 in my 2005 3500 ok this is what Im wanting to know. Can you take a 6.7 block and use everything off your 5.9 truck to install it? Will the head work off a 5.9 on the 6.7? as the block is the same except for the stroke an bore. What I dont know and the local Cummins deal mechanic is if they changed the bolt pattern on the head seeing as the bolts are close the the cylinder in the 5.9 he thought they moved the bolts out wich would make a 5.9 head worthless on the 6.7. Any of you tried of know about this type of swap?

Thanks
Mark

You *can* get a 6.7 to run with an '03-'04 ECM...

Yea the Cummins Mechanic told me the blocks are siamesed but other than that he said it was the same but he didn't know if the head bolt pattern was the same. He was going to call Cummins hotline and see if they are or not. He thinks they're not the same bolt pattern but wanted to check it out for me anyway. If it is the same and we can bolt a 5.9 head on then we can just use all our existing hardware ECM an all because the ECM will never know the difference.

I found out that the heads on the 6.7 have steam ports in them, also the machine shop that told me this said that they haven't had anyone yet to drill the steam ports in a 5.9 head without making some real good boat anchors. What I'd like to do is take a 5.9 head and put it on a 6.7 so I can run it without all the emissions garbage on it. Other than the steam ports they bolt on but with a siamesed block you'd have to have the ports on the head or ruin it one.

6.7L heads/blocks have extra water ports in them that make them different along with some other changes.

The 6.7 has the same bolt patter on the head/block. The outside of the 6.7 block/head are basically the same dimensionally.

I think Reb Brown did up a 6.7 with 03 electronics and it ran. It is possible if you change all of the right parts.
