Question Xzillaraider 100 hp box question

I have a 100 hp xzillaraider box that I've been using for a couple weeks now. Quadzilla is supplying me with a new harness because the unit has set some codes. I had an interesting experience with my truck today and have some questions.

I know the box throws off the accuracy of the overhead mileage computer but does it throw off the distance to empty calculations and the fuel guage as well? I was on the highway coming home from a meeting and my low fuel light came on with the guage at 1/8 tank which is normal. The unusual part is the DTE still read 115 km (71 miles) when it would usually read 60 km (37 miles). I wasn't concerned as it was only a few kilometers to a fuel station. The truck suddenly started to act like it was running out of fuel. It would have no throttle response unless I put my foot into it, then a cloud of blue smoke would puff out the pipe and the truck would take off. I was running the box on the 60 hp setting so I turned it off and the truck continued to do the same thing until it died as I was turning a corner several blocks from the fuel station. I cranked the truck for a about five seconds and it started and ran absolutely normal to the fuel station. I filled it and it only took 100 litres (22 US gallons). I've put this much fuel into it many times before and have never had the truck run out of fuel, in fact when I fuel it at the 1/8 tank level as it was today it always takes right around the same amount of fuel.

Do you think I was running out of fuel or do you think it points to issues with the harness or module? The truck did not set any codes and ran fine the rest of the way home with the box back on the 60 hp setting.

It almost sounds like a dirty load of fuel? Strange how filling it up fixed it if it was not empty? The pumps can vary as well?

I thought about this some more. It wasn't running out of fuel because I was able to start the truck and drive several blocks to the fuel station. It is some electronic glitch but I don't know what.

If they throw off fuel mileage it must not be much.Friend has a 30/60/100 box and by hand like 17.69 mpg by overhead 17.9 mpg on last tank of fuel.

Hounddog what setting was he using? On the 60 hp setting mine is off by about 20% compared to hand calculations.

My first thought is that your lift pump may be starting to fail. Those are the right symptoms for it.

torquefan I wondered the same thing myself (lift pump). I'm going to take it in for a replacement towing mirror and I'll ask the service manager about that.

although I do not think it explains your problem, the answer to your question is "yes". the computer uses MPG to calculate DTE. if the computer thinks you are getting more miles per gallon than you really are, then it will calculate a higher DTE.
