My mileage results with Xzillaraider standard box

I recently returned home from vacation in southern Utah and Nevada I installed the xzillaraider standard 100 hp box on my trip and would like to post the following hand calculated mileage figures for your information.

Some background information. I completed this trip last year and mileage pulling the same trailer but with slightly less load on board was 13.06 mpg (canadian) or 10.9 mpg (US gallon).

This year I was hauling a 7000 lb Travel trailer with two 650 cc dual sport motorcycles, one passenger on the way down, and two coming back, complete with their luggage and riding gear. Last year I had only one passenger the entire trip. I also had a few hundred pounds of extra freight this year as opposed to last.

This year's trip:

WITHOUT the box, total of 1093.3 miles travelled, mileage was 12.38 mpg (Canadian) or 10.3 mph (US).

WITH the box, total of 2040.2 miles travelled, mileage was 14.04 mpg (Canadian) or 11.7 mpg (US).

As I stated earlier these were calculated mileage numbers that I kept track on my laptop. The overhead readings were skewed and were roughly 20 percent higher. All of the towing was done on the 60 hp setting with the xzillaraider. There were no EGT issues. I do not have a boost guage so cannot comment on those numbers.

I am pleased with the mileage increase and the difference in power. Hills that would require me to shift into 5th without the box were pulled in high gear. I did find that the truck pulled hills better if I had the cruise set at 70 mph (2100 rpm) as opposed to a slower speed and less rpm.

I have had code issues with the box, it set a P0193 code and a CEL, as well as a P0192 code and a CEL. It also set a P0237 code when I was running the truck empty in Great Falls, MT as I was playing on the 100 hp setting. The P0192 code was accompanied with a loud rattle from the engine. It was shut down and restarted and ran fine. When I returned home I cleared the codes with my scanner, rechecked all the connections and drove the truck again on all the hp settings. It set a P0236 code this time.

I have contacted Quadzilla and am awaiting their response regarding the code issues.

Same codes I got. Seem to be a trend here, however after my episode I haven't had any codes since (all hp settings, XZ race).

Seems that my injector rattle got louder before the codes set. Now I'm nervous and ratchet down the **** when I hear the rattle getting louder. I'm also getting a very slight surge on the 140hp setting after a good romp to pass on the highway. Makes me think the lift pump isn't doing it's job, but the surge is only AFTER I've pushed my right foot to the floor (fuel pick-up starvation/cavitation?).

I need to contact Quad on what to do next. I know there is a re-flash avaliable, but I have yet to hear what the fix is and what the experience is (ie. any other code problems) with the flash.

Keep us posted.

I would think a sustained pull at +140hp would draw a stock fuel supply system to 0 psi...

Many have seen fuel pressures this low with a 65 hp EZ.

I can't speak for everyone, but from what we have found those codes go hand in hand with a loose Fuel rail plug. I say this because these are the exact codes we get if power does not get to the module and we get power from the rail. This is why you get the 0237 code as well. The map circuit is broken and the key is on so you get a code.

So far everyone that had these codes has not had problems once they made sure all connections were good. Sometime a few thousandths makes a difference on the pins.

If this is not the problem you think you had please let me know.

I only know of 1 truck that has codes that we do not know what to do with. We are thinking the Dodge dealer may have found the problem.

The rest have been fixed or the harnesses replaced as far as I know.

Like I said, if I am wrong please let me know so we can handle it.

Quad as I explained to Jeremy I rechecked *all* the connections on my truck. They snap together properly so I'm not sure what you mean by a few thousandths. It set a P0236 code after I rechecked the connections. Jeremy said he was going t discuss the problem with you and get back to me. I'm waiting for his call.

Yes I have heard of this. I believe the truck that it happened on had a fp regulator that feeds the cp3 that was out of spec? I am not sure if it was high or low, but they swapped it and it never came back.

Before he took it to the dealer he checked everything and reset the code and it did not come back for a while, then crusing it came back and thats when he went in and left the code in the truck.

Just for reference I have also heard of 0148 and it was a lift pump that was weak.

0193 seems to be when the fp plug was not seated all the way, and it usually accompanied by 0237.

After you set the 0251 did the truck seem to return to running normal? He said his would stay running normal and everynow and then it had that stumble. I would like to know more about it, but there is not a lot of info available and I cannot seem to get any of our trucks to set this code. I have tried to choke fuel supply to the CP3 and cannot get an error?

Let me know more info.

Quad when it threw the code it just chocked really hard once and the check engine light came on......It didnt do it again that day....Yesterday i had it on the 60hp setting and during full throtle it cut out at about 2400rpm in third gear....It was like it wasnt getting any fuel, switched gears and it ran fine....I have also had a jerking sensation from time to time while at cruising speed on the 60 and 100hp settings....Another ?, sometimes it seems like it runs much stronger than other times???

This may seem petty and silly, but you might try a new fuel filter. You may have had a trashy load of fuel and that can junk a filter quick. If that does not seem to fix it, then we need to get you a harness or a whole new module. The inconsistancy would lead me more in the harness direction, but better to be safe than sorry. The truck should never surge or jerk or do anything ugly. I would look towards the fuel filter as it sounds like sometimes the fuel is there and other times it isn't.

Smokeman,

We need to replace it. I am going to get them to send you a new one, but I would like it if you could plug one piece of the new module in at a time. In otherwords, swap the harness first. then the switch, then the module. I would like to try and diagnose these problems so that I can put it in our troubleshooting manual.

I am sure you will be getting a call from Jeremy very soon.

No problem. Don't hurry on my account, we just want you to be happy. Has it been long since you changed it?

You cannot get away with running a dirty filter with a box near as good as you can with a stock truck. We find a lot of customers that run 30-40k miles on the original filters!

Quad,

It could be fuel supply related. I noticed during my initial testing that the XZ Race/VA C3.2 stack could pull my pressure 1-1/2 lbs lower than the TST/C3.1, TST/EZ or C3.2/EZ stack could even with the RASP feeding it. Something to think about anyway.
