The computer can also see a misfire. Two separate things. Yes they can be related, but the computer has no idea of what caused the misfire. It measure time between pulses on the crank sensor and compares all 6 of them against a predetermined value. It uses that information along with the cam sensor to determine which cylinder is misfiring.
The computer can see an injector problem due to an open circuit, out of range, or shorted circuit. An injector could be mechanically stuck open or closed and as long as the circuit is within specs.....no code related to an injector, just the misfire.

usually when they stick open it takes the low oil pressure light to find out...or the oil/diesel mix pouring out of the breather tube
