Winch ???
Winch ???
Just installed my Ranch Hand bumper last night and now need to get the winch. The bumper I have is rated for 12,000-16,000 lbs winch according to RH but will except smaller if you drill new holes in the plate. I was thinking about a Warn 9500 but don't know if that would be the best bang for the $. I am not against Superwinch or MileMarker but don't have experience with them. What winches are you guys running? Mine will be used a couple times a year. It is more for looks and bragging rights you could say.
I have not made the jump to a winch either. I would like to see some opinions.
I know WARN is one of the best but for 1/2 price you can get their Tabor line or some of the other ones and still have a 12000 lb rating. I also think 12k is what these trucks need, or more.
So just jumping in here to see some of the replies.

I have the Warn HS9500 with the Transformer mount on my truck. Iv'e only pulled MY truck 1 time, but it did ok. I do keep a ****** block in the tool box just in case
. You can see it in my gallery.

I just installed a Milemarker 12,000. The rule of thumb is you want 1 1/2 times the winch rating for what your truck weighs. I know my truck is right at over 8000lbs with my Ranch Hand front end replacement.
I am in the same boat as you and don't really need a winch that bad. I will probably only use it a couple a times a year too.
WARN is the best. Period. Or so I hear. But very pricey.
I got the MM on sale for $599 w/a free wireless remote. 4 Wheel parts.
No pics yet of the MM, just the RH.
I haven't even used it yet so i can't tell you to much about it's performance, but it seems like it will do the job great. Hope that helps!

I had a few winchs back in the day, but decided to get married and that all ended.
I am a fan of Ramsey worm gear stuff. Worm gear is slooow, but strong and long lasting. Planets? Well ya know....

Dont not put a 9500 on your truck, it will fail when you need it most. I have a HS9500i that I use in my rockcrawler and also put it in the multimount tray when I think I might need it on my CTD. Well I broke my front inner drivers side shaft on the D60 in my 99 screwing around in the snow. The 9500 DID NOT get the job done I wouldnt even move me 5 feet. So we had to hook up witha jeep and his 9500 also.
I was also looking into the Tabor Series from WARN. The seem like they would work out OK for occosional use on out trucks. They are way better the the cheap azz Chineese winches. They use the older WARN technology.
Just get a used M12000 for $700.

MileMarker Hydraulic winches are the best BAR-NONE
you can't over heat them, you can run them under water, they won't run your batteries down. The only electrical part on them is a hydraulic/electic valve. And being hydraulic they are always well lubricated. Most of the utility companies down here use them on their off road trucks for the main reason of realibility. They are also priced close to electric winches. You can get a Milemarker 12000LB for just $700

Don't know about the bumper, but the Warn/transformer combination attaches to the frame. I have the 12,000# winch and pull down (big) trees with it. I've also been stuck with a full box load of logs/firewood on a muddy hill - 30 degree incline - and I was able to pull myself up and out easily. Warn isn't cheap, but the first time you need to call for a tow when you're stuck with the "other" winch, it will pay for itself.
