yes, my buddy's got that on his 600. I have a City Muffler 5" system on my '97.

with the louvers of the muffler facing forward, it's pretty quiet. sounds good though. too quiet for me, I straight piped it

my buddy had the louvers facing backward, and it sounded **** near straight piped!

good system for the money. I'm VERY happy w/ mine. just realize that all you're getting is bigger pipe and a different sound. your stock exhaust is 4" and will support quite a bit of power.

I believe NAPA can order Donaldson or Walker parts... where in TX are you located? a local big truck supplier could probably get you a muffler cheaper.

honestly, I'd just work with your factory exhaust... much cheaper and the same performance.

my truck had stacks when I bought it, so I pretty much had to buy a complete system... I figured 5" was only $30-40 more than 4" and it would give me room to grow.

I am near Houston, now that I think of it we have a couple of local semi parts shops.

I want more flow, and a little more noise.

I would like to take out that resonator/cat thing, but I dont know if I will pass emissions???

TX has no smog inspection for diesels.

600 Exhaust System

Thirsty600,

Yes it can be made to fit but you might want to look at getting a 600 engine specific system. We have not built a down pipe for the 600 as the factory one is (unfortunately for us but good for you) pretty darn good. It's afull 4 inch set up and we didn't feel we could charge you for something that wouldn't get you any real gains.

We have cat back 600 engine systems in 409 stainless steel at very attractive prices, we also have a cat test pipe but it's not necessary unless you want to really hear the engine sing. The current crop of factory cats is pretty darn good flow wise as compared to the old style ones that used to be used on the diesels.

Our systems have 100% welded 304 stainless steel hangers and a real muffler with a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool packing materials too. Most of the low priced systems actually have a hollow core muffler that is actually a restriction as the exhaust tries to exit the outer can of the muffler those gasses fight with the gasses in the inner can of the muffler and cause quite a bit of turbulence etc.

The 600 systems aren't on our site yet but please call us with any questions you have on them.

Exhaust

Another way to go is simply install an Aeroturbine just after the cat and use a make up piece of pipe where the muffler has been removed. This works well to lower EGTs and gain performance with out being too loud and costs less than the system you are considering.

another way is to simply install a $40-50 resonator and get the same or better performance as the Aeroturbine for 1/4 the price.

The performance may be the same with a resonator and the sound may be quieter with a resonator, but the Aeroturbine when installed all the way to the front will lower EGTs noticeably where a resonator won't.

I felt exactly the same way about it before I installed one on my own rigs. You look inside these things and see what looks like an airplane wing rolled into a donut, it looks like a restriction. Once installed all the way to the front the Aeroturbine definately lowered my EGTs almost 100F under heavy load. Like any of these things the results do vary from truck to truck, but most do see an EGT reduction and like the change in exhaust sound. In the third gen trucks with a dron problem, the Aeroturbine will reduce or eliminate the drone. Just our experience with these units.

fair enough. I'd have to see it to believe it, and I appreciate you admitting that you felt the same way. I'm not calling you a liar, and I'm not trying to bash any product you offer or hurt your business. I am open to the possibility that it'll lower EGT, but holding one in my hand, I didn't see how it could.

I've asked this question before in jest, but now I'm being serious. Have you ever lined up two of them in a row to see if it would reduce EGT even furthur?

thanks,

Forrest

Funny you should ask. We did this on my wife's Excursion 7.3L diesel and I was amazed. The EGTs with the first one dropped about 150F and the second one dropped the EGTs about 1/2 again as much more. Hers is the only one we have used two on, so other trucks may not see the same EGT drop as hers. Also to get the most benefit out of the Aeroturbine, it must be mounted as close to the heat as possible.
