Wide tires on stock rims?

pros and cons?

Who has done what?

38.5X15.50X17 on a stock wheel?
37X13.5X17 on a stock wheel?
40X13.5X17 on a stock wheel?

I picked up an extra set of stock polished alloys for $100. Haven't decided what to wrap around them yet.

I don't think I'd try a 13.5" tire on those stock rims. That's really pushing it...

Even the BFG 315/70R/17s call for a minimum rim width wider than the 17x8 stock rims. I don't think I would go bigger than that. When my ship comes in I will replace my 17x8s with 17x8.5s or 17x9s.

Both the stock alloy and chrome clad steel are 17x8. I have a set of both.

Where did you get a set of polished alloys for $100? I need a set, but haven't seen then for much cheaper than $500 on ebay.

Wouldn't a longer sidewall have more flex to it and be able to mount to an 8 anyways. I've got a 35x12.5 on the stock wheel. Surely a taller 13.50 would work. That's only one inch.

You could probably make it work. The problem will come if you ever tow or load the truck down heavy. Plus, you may have a hard time finding a shop that will mount them for you unless you know someone....
