Why not a flowmaster?

SO I see you guys always cut out cats and mufflers. If you want more flow but not more noise couldn't you put in a flowmaster muffler? Why doesn't anybody ever use the flowmasters or talk about them on here?

So what should I do to get more flow out of the stock pipe and maintain near stock sound levels?

Well, I do not know about now but, when they first came out they were still chambered which makes for bad flow on a diesel. That is why people straight pipe them.

On my 06 truck (my personal truck) I did some muffler testing along with a bunch of other dyno testing. I found the best combo for decent sound but, not loud, egt drop, and horsepower was MBRP's muffler delete kit. I left the cat in place because I wanted it quiet. We played with taking the cat in and out and we saw no difference up to like 3000rpm's and then it was minimal, like 2 hp or something.

I think that the chambered mufflers cause pulsing, more or less, ive always heard that chambered mufflers on a turbo diesel are a no-no...

Get a Donaldson or a Nelson, they're meant for big rigs but work great on our trucks without a whole lotta noise. Cheap too, my 40" Nelson was $67 CDN at my local Cummins store, pics and part number in my gallery.

Don't do it. I had a flowmaster on my 06 at first before I learned more about mods and I didn't like it. It had a lot of drone and just didn't sound right. I've had a mbrp and it was ok but now I have a donaldson and love it. More of a big rig sound and no drone.

Muffler delete for the big win! It's not loud at all, and flows beter than anything else.

you can put any muffler on yo uwant. personally I like the sound of flowmasters I wont sue them however because they do NOT flow well. unless you use a single chamber race muffler.

I run the MBRP muffler on mine because I just wanted a nice tone without being loud. With the MBRP, while towing 10,000+ lbs up 6% grades my 3-yr old can nap in the back seat and my wife and I can still hold a conversation.
