I like it, not that I am aginsnt loud(the truck is strait piped) but it is much more tolerable inside the truck.

That and High Pressure Common Rails are just quiter motors, its part of the price you pay for performance and good emissions

Silence is golden.

After owning a '99 for seven years,it's nice to carry on a conversion at normal speaking levels. I had a low restriction muffler installed. It does sound like a diesel now,but still no drone and quiet cab. Love it.

Yeah, you can always tell the ones who have never owned a 12V before. It might sound cool when it's somebody elses, but it's just downright annoying when you have to drive around all the time yelling over the noise.

I never had the pleasure of owning a 12 valve but I did have a 2000 24 valve, and all around that was a louder engine. I sure miss the sound on the new trucks. I hate to say it but from the people that I know that complained about the noise were the city slickers.

Well the general public does not like the diesel rattle...Even in my father's 7.3 it can be impossible to have a converstation with the person in the back seat. I like the purr of my common rail.

ive had all 3,a 94 12valve and a 01 24valve and my 04 cr.the 94 was by far the best truck,it sounded like a diesel should and was easy to work on,if it had quad doors i never would have goten rid of it,i love the sound of the 2nd gens, those were the real diesel trucks.the 04 steers better but it sounds like a car

I agree to some extent as well.

Man did I love the sound of that '99 Straight piped gulping air through the BHAF. It flat out sounded BAD!!!

As I get a little older and rely on my vehicle to call on customers and such, it probably is not the image that I need to portray. This is way more of a "Grown Up" truck, much more civilised and such. I don't know if I'll ever be taking the muffler off the '06
