where to get switched 12v?

hey guys, I'm putting backup lights on my 3rd gen. Its a half ton, though...boooo....but I figure most of the interior stuff is the same, so I thought I would ask here.

I got my relay and lines run and all that, but I need a source of 12v in the cab somewhere that is only hot when the ignition is in the on position. I put the switch on the left side of the steering wheel just above the brake release.

So what do you guys use for power in the cab? Is there anything near that location? I was going to just take it off the back of the fuse block like i did on my old 2nd gen 12 valve, but then i realized that the fuse block is in the engine bay! DOH!

any ideas??? Thanks!!

You can switch a relay off of the cigarette lighter but run the power all the way to the fuse box.

good deal...that should be easy enough.

yeah, the main power for the lights is coming off the battery, so this is just for the juice to close the relay.

Thanks man!

I was just poking around behind the bezel and in addition to the lighter I found two dead-ended connections off the harness. Not sure if either of those provide 12v switched but it would be nice if they did. I'm doing a gauge install and will use the lighter if I can't find another source... but I just realized that all my wire and solder and stuff is in storage... so I'll need to buy parts tomorrow to finish my project.

That connector could be for the passenger airbag disable switch on the regular cabs.

hmmmm yep. There's one to the right and one in the center that could be one of them. It's surely for an option not on my QC SLT. Maybe the electronic shift-on-the-fly too?
Guess I'll climb under and snag the lighter instead.
