Won't be long till oil change at 10k, is that to soon to switch to synthetic oil? If so, when is the best time?

 

I think they recommend 20,000 miles before going to synthetic oil. I just switched over at 14,000 miles......

 

Switch it over whenever. An engine wears the same with a dino or syn oil. Syn is more advantageous for better cold flow properties and heat resistance burn off (NOACK Volatility). The old wait till xx,xxx miles is a wives tale.

 

I just switched at 25k, but I don't work my truck that hard. I took it a little slower to let it break in.

 

Mine didn't fully break in until 78,000K!!

I could tell because it suddenly jumped 2.5 mpg wihtout any other mods or different fuel or additives or anything like that.

I don't think you have to wait that long to change and it will make little difference. I agree with the wives tale theory.

And it is ok to do cross rotation on radial tires now too...
