Is the TAGIII supposed to be used with the stock silencer ring in place... I thought I read that somewhere.

TAG-III can be used with or without the silencer ring, but we generally recommend leaving the silencer ring in place. It also fits after market intake hoses such as our Cool Hose or Torque Tubes.

Why do you recommend leaving the ring in place?

We recommend leaving the ring in simply because it helps to redirect air coming from the slot near the compressor wheel back towards the center of the turbo inlet. Also we see no per formance advantage in removing the silencer.

OK true. Do you know if you still get turbo whistle with the ring in place with a torque tube and stock air box?

thanks Jamie

When you use the Torque Tube or our Cool Hose you will definately be able to hear the turbo more than using the stock hose with or without the TAG.

The physical difference is the air guide moves further away from the compressor wheel and the TAG-III incorporates a funnel or velocity stack directly into the turbo. The effect is the TAG-III yield better performance in the upper rpms than the original TAG. You should give us a call and ask Jeff what the differences he has noticed on his 2004.
