Ive known alot of people with the edge that tear of the stock trannys on chevys and fords, given that the dodge tranny is the weakest i think so, maybe just how the power comes in im not exactly sure. I dont know what the turbo spikes at but on the crazy larry mine hits about 34~, ive heard that some people have hit as high as 44 on the stock turbo (i belive they messed with it though) but i wouldnt thank thats good for it. Im not sure of the model # im sure someone will chime in about that. Id really go with the quad, ive heard alot of good things.

I was in your position about a month ago. Which downloader should I get?,will it hurt my tranny?, will it hurt my motor?, all these questions were running through my mind. Like you there's not alot of diesel shops in my area, you either get a Bullydog, Edge, or a Superchips flashpaq unless you order by phone or online. I went with the Tripple Dog from Bullydog based on alot of good feedback from this sight. Your wandering if your tranny will be ok with an extra 180hp, honostly your tranny could go with 60 extra horsepower. Every vehicle is different, it's the chance you take when you mod. I run mine on extreme everyday for better gas mileage, I might get on it 2 or 3 times a week and it's fine so far. You just have to be smart with how you drive it.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

I did a lot of research and the QUAD seems to GIVE THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK. Smooth power delivery, 140hp STRONG power. I guess the ONLY thing holding me back is ONE thing:

1st: I have read numerous and numerous posts about how "my truck got stranded" "flashing CHECK ENGINE light on"....etc and a lot of other RELIABILITY issues and I feel like if something went wrong, i'd be screwed since there are NO QUAD dealers anywhere even close to me, so I would have to send it out and then wait for a reply....etc

I wouldnt worry about it, people dont make post all the time saying "yep the quad functioned perfect today" they usually make post when somehings wrong so with that kind of stuff you usually see the few bad, and if something does go wrong, take it out and drive it and wait for the fix! Go for it, besides you have other vehicles to drive if something does.

You know what, you are suffering from internet information overload. I'm glad I wasn't on here until after I got both my BDPP and Edge Juice. If I had, I would have been as paranoid as you and not be at the level I am now.

To answer your question of ease of use, the Quad or Edge is easier to adjust on the fly. With the BD-TD (without monitor) is harder to do, you have to leave the downloader hooked into the OBDIII port and try to adjust it while driving down the road all the while keeping an eye on the said road. The reg BDPP like mine does not have this feature.

I am in the same boat right now I think STREETSMOKER is right "internet information overload" If it wasn't for sites like this I would have a Superchips from a local shop... NOW
I can't decide between a Smarty, TST or Edge J/A
I have been posting on another site and now this one as well and from what I can tell MOST of the time people recommend what they have done very few know the details about other products. But it also shows that most people are happy with the decision they made. So what should you do? Sounds like you have made up your mind to get somthing local so go back and reread this thread and then get what you can locally. Based on this info. Will you break something? From the way its sounds like you drive could break something stock. If you wanna play you gotta pay... Just my .02 now what should I get... I am getting an Edge oh wait no a Smarty yeah thats the one wait... hmmmm oh man this is a tuff call!!!! nnnnnnnoooooooooooooo

If those are your choices, I'd say definitely go with the Smarty...

well...lets talk about the smarty for a sec,

1. Is it shift on a fly?
2. Whats the highest setting I can EVER go on with my stock trans/turbo?
3. Does it have a monitor like edge, bd, commader....etc?

Whats such a big deal about this smarty anyways?

im really not a big fan of something that JUST CAME OUT, unlike the EDGE or BULLYDOG that have been around and proven. Reliability is a BIG ISSUE

"The Never Ending Story"

I just got done reading all seven pages of this post and one thought comes to mind: I can't believe I have been missing this. This post should be titled "The Never Ending Story." Just like the movie from back in the 80's. Anywho, Viking, I can't believe you haven't made up your mind yet. After reading all this nonsense, I'm about sold on the quad box. And I didn't even want to mod until after 100k. Just a word of advice: I think everybody was busting your chops for a reason. Here's why: you've made ENDLESS threads about what mod to do. Each one of these threads ends up being several miles long. Wait for it, wait for it...here comes the kicker... YOU HAVE YET TO DO ANYTHING TO YOUR TRUCK!!!!!! Everyone's getting frustrated because they keep giving you advice (this requires much of their time) and you don't even use it. Why ask the questions if you're not going to act on the answers? I've offered up my advice, along with many others, not only about truck stuff, but thread posting etiquete (sp?) as well. Yet, no advice has been capitalized upon. I frequent other forums such as www.gixxer.com , and lemme tell you, they would have torn you up so bad you would have never gone back. You should be thankful everyone on here is so patient. Think about it, Quad gave you all that advice and answered all your questions. What did you do? You asked the same questions again, just with different words. Basically just shined all of his advice and time. People are going to stop taking you seriously. I'm already to the point where I don't even open your threads (which is why I missed this one consequently). I'm not trying to beat you down, just trying to give you some forum advice. Alright brother, I'll put the soap box away now. This here is for XLR8R cuz I know he likes it so much . Sorry Viking, I had to do it.

I have said the EXACT same thing....Except it's "put it on kill mode." She would get the downloader and I would bump the tst up. Now I have the outlook on so it is so fast to change the settings.
