I got the smart 4.11, and i was wondering what setting i need to have it on when towing, im going to pick up my travel trailer tomorrow, its 38 ft long and 13,000 lbs. what would be the best setting? would 60 hp be too much?

 

anybody have any input? i have to head out early in the morning so i was just curious about the setting

 

I towed 10,000# recently on setting 1 (30 hp) and was more than happy with the power... and I never saw my EGT's get above 1250*

alright, well i set it on 60, i guess before i leave the lot i could drop it to 30, the trailer is dry weight like 13,000 lbs.

 

If you have a manual tranny, you can go as high as #5. If you notice the clutch slipping under high torque (generally less than 2000 rpms) you'll need to back out of it or set it down to #3. If you have a stock auto tranny, don't go higher than #3 and expect it to live through it.
