What is a good inexpensive device to reset codes

My 2004.5 2500 truck has been quite the problem over the last couple months.

I've went back to all stock to get back to square one. I'm tired of pulling the battery cables (had to replace a battery cable as well) to clear codes.

What is a cheaper decent device to reset codes?

Edit: Just found scanguage II.

I use someone else's vin locked smarty jr that I got for free. The guy traded his truck without unloading it first. I went to buy it from him and found it locked, he just gave it to me.

That's a great way to get it done. Really nice of the guy!

Can I borrow it?

Unfortunately, I don't know many people with Diesels, much less with programmers. I did have a girl at the local parts store clear my last set of codes, she gave me the light guilt trip of "not supposed to do this, but". I'm not going back for another reset since I don't buy parts there, which is only fair. Nice of her to do me a favor.

You can get scanners for under $60 at most parts stores, Sears, H.F. I have one from H.F that I've been using for years with no trouble. As much as prices have come down since I bought mine I would just get a name brand one now.

I have a $85 H.F. scanner tool and it clears codes no problem.

Can't you send this back to Bob Wagoner and have reset it to remove the old ECM information?

Many of the auto parts stores will clear the codes.
I have a UltaGauge that I got for my truck but moved it to my van because it would not read rail pressure. It will clear the codes. The gauge cost $70 and will give readings on about 43 items on my turck. It will read the rail pressure on the '04.5 and later.

I have an AutoXray AX2500 Code Scout. It was about $120.00. Works great.

Thanks guys! I'll head down to the store that the nice lady helped me at and pick up something. See what they have in stock.

Drove the truck 300 miles and the codes I know should be gone are still there. Good times!
