what is the future of bio diesel in our rigs? I've heard bad stuff about bio diesel (saw some pictures of clogged up stuff from some vender can't remember which one) but I wonder if this is limited to our 3rd generation diesels because of the injectors?
Anybody know-is there something inherantly bad about biodiesel for 3rd gens or after the quality gets better (or if you do it yourself?) is this going to be a option?

 

I run 20% bio from Exxon in mine most all time, I do it for the lubricity and it doesn't cost anymore anyway. Plus it is WAY cleaner on your whole fuel system. I would run more than 20% but that is all that is available to me. I need to get with a buddy or 2 and us start making it since fuel is over 4 bucks/gallon here. I guess up north or if you visit mts you would have to keep it under ? 40%. I can't tell any difference in way it runs. Runs great on either straight dino or B-20. If I made my own, I would be EXTRA clean with it because our trucks have such high pressures. Maybe someone on here that makes their own will chime in. If they don't, google fredstdiclub.com a lot of people over there make their own.

 

i've run b-99 in my truck and it clogs the filter pretty quick and i had a loss in mpg while running it.

 

Then I guess 99% would obviously be no good. Not being smart either, I just did not know that. Thanks for info, if I see it I'll steer the other way.

 

Wouldn't a clogged up filter indicate poor quality fuel?
Just what are the real issues with at least a higher than 5% bio fuel be.

From what I understand the clogged fuel filters are because the bio cleans the crud out of your fuel system.

 

I've run B-99 for thousands of miles, off and on, here and there.. Fill up when it was avilable and cheaper, other times it wasn't cheaper. Never really noticed a power difference running it. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention?

I did notice I clogged up a 7 micron filter a few thousand miles earlier than normal the first time I ran that much bio, but it NEVER happened again... In fact my filters seemed to last longer after that initial clog... Now I have an Airdog and haven't had to change the filters on that yet.. Only about 3000 miles on it though!

The Clogged filter IS from Bio's cleaning/solvent nature. Once you change filters after running it for a month or three or four thousand miles you will find that bio does NOT clog the filter. (and your motor will be very quiet and last longer) MY experiance.
