Volant Cold Air System

Has anyone used the Volant Cold Air System? It was spoken pretty highly of in Diesel Power magazine. I am getting ready to change my air system and don't know if I should go with Volant or some other brand like AFE or various others.

not going to say anything bad about anyone else, but I have a K&N and love it. Poeple will bash it, but it has not let me down once and everytime i change my oil i check my torque tube and there isnt one spec of dust in there. At the sounds like a boey 757 flying down the road.

The only way to really know is to use an oil sample. Call Blackstone Labs and get a sample kit from them. The silicon levels in your oil will determine how well your filter is working.

I just did a sample on my truck. I have an AFE PG7. Silicon is 5ppm. Very good, by most people's standards.

If you have say, 12ppm silicon, your filter is not working very well. I'm not here to bash K&N or Volant, but if you can see light through a new filter you know dirt can get through.

I personally feel the PG7 is the best oiled element filter out there. I have not tried the Scotty w/ the Uni filter, but I've used Uni's on my dirtbike and they've stopped TONS of dust.

My brothers Volant should be in this week or early next week. I was told it's supposed to be one of the best kits out there. I think you want to keep the air/filter box, to help keep out as must hot engine air as possible. All the other kits kinda cancel themselves out by having an open filter under the hood, sounds great but doesn't cleanest or coolest air. I'll let you know how the Volant kit turns out.

I installed the Volant about 2 months ago. I do not find any indications of particles getting by the filter. You can really any the turbo whine now. I like it.

I've had the afe and now have the volant. The performance is no difference between the two, but the volant filter stays cleaner a lot longer and is considerably cheaper.

If it stays cleaner longer does that mean its not trapping dirt as well?

No it has an actual "air box" so it is not as open to the elements.
