Twins component durability
Twins component durability
I have not had the opportunity to look at a set of twins up close but in the pictures it looks as if the ATS twins are the only ones with cast pieces instead of steel pips welded to flanges. I am interested durability of the kits. Are the fabricated pipes and flanges trouble free? Has anyone had problems with any of these parts cracking? My experience with turbos is that the cast pieces are usually more resistant to cracking but that is on gasers and to prevent it you try to keep the weight of big turbos off the tubular manifolds. With diesel compounds are the weight of the turbos supported by the manifold and/or the pipes connecting the two turbos or are there brackets that I am missing in the pictures I have seen? I am interested in a set of twins and like the look of the ATS 3000/5000 set, the kit seems well designed. any other twins I should look at?
Cast pipes in the areas that are going to see the most heat are definately a good idea. We use a cast pipe in between stages to prevent any problems. Cast pipes will help to support the weight much better as well. The cold pipes dont need it.
When you make 100's of the same combo...cast peices make sense. I have no worries about the hot pipe on my MPI twins at all. FAR nicer support for the hot pipe back to the engine than most others too...
