Turbo drop on 2004.5
I want to install pyro on 2004.5. I have read about both popular methods
1) the grease, magnet, & start engine just before breaking thru method
2) the loosen turbo & use a piece of cardboard method
Question.
How hard is it to drop turbo 1" for the cardboard trick? I read about a paticularly bad nut to reach on the bottom. I think maybe that was on
an earlier gen.? don't know.
Also, will I be able to re-use gaskets? I read a few threads last nite where
lots of guys re-used the same gaskets without any problems.
I need some "Been There,Done That" help. Thanks!

If you drill in the runner by the #3 cylinder you can get most of the shavings out with a magnet. The small particles will get by the turbine ok.
If you want to drill above the flange on the back three runner I would drop the turbo. You will need a right angle drill to do this. No problem using the gaskit again. The front back nut is a bit hard to reach and you will need a 15mm deep offset boxed end wrench. The turbo nuts can be tight. I would remove the tire and splash shield and the drain tube. After removing the turbo nuts pry the turbo down enough to get a piece of cardboard in and drill away.

Duct tape over your tailpipe and do it with the truck running. The back pressure will blow the shavings out so wear safety glasses. Done this with a couple trucks and it works really well. Takes less than 10 minutes

TST's website has an excellent set of instructions for pyro install.
