Red face Trashed drivetrain on 4x4 launch OOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

I am not trying to scare anyone but, I wrapped my left side lower control arm the other day doing a 4x4 launch, and would like to see if anyone else has had this problem?

I was racing a mustang GT, and at the start I reved to about 1500rpm and eased into it off the start. I didnt pop the clutch, just did a good solid launch. I lost due to my slipping clutch but held him slipping, until 70mph and then in 5th gear it finally couldnt take it and broke loose completley. I do have a video but I cant post it because it is on another forum site.

After the race I noticed, it pulled to the right side a little but, didnt think anything about it. Last night I blew a U-joint and the carrier bearing, so I took it to the dealer "where I used to work " and the warrentee covered everything but the bent control arm.

Soooooo now I am ordering a Skyjacker 2.5" lift with new STRONG control arms.

Has anyone ever even heard of this? I know there are a lot more poeple running a lot more HP and not doing this???? I dont get it????

I will get some pics of the arm on here soon so you guys can tell me what you think...Later!

Not me. But that sounds like a fast truck to tear itself apart. I think mine is slow enough that I don't have to worry.

I was wondering about 4x4 launching. I thought maybe you would launch in 4x4 and then switch back to 2 wheel drive at about 30mph or so. I didn't know that guys (or girls) were running full runs in 4x4.

Have you thought about getting an air-shifter of some sort to go back to 2 wheel drive after you launch? Maybe this would help. I don't know, just a thought.

I'm surprised at your breakage; the 3rd gens have the boxed control arms - unlike the 2nd gens which are just "channel" forms... I'm interested to see the pics, find out which direction they bent in, how much and where.

WoW That will make it a little nervous the next time I'm at the line launching with 20+ psi of boost.

Please pm me the link to where I can view the damage. Thanks!

Well guys, I guess I am glad I didnt bust a T-case or diff, but this is weird. I wonder if it was just week.

This truck has never pulled anything, it is never dirty, never been in the mud, all I do with it is drive it to work in town, I never see 60mph, unless i am late

Maybee its just a little heavy to take this stuff.....NAAAAHHHHHH

Every time you see a dodge that's been in a wreck the control arms are always bent... They are designed to be somewhat weak to save the frame in an accident. When my dad's 03 got hit head-on going 50mph it trashed all four of the control arms. They all bent in the same exact place.

I never thought about one of them bending from a 4x4 launch... Maybe its time to look at an upgrade. The only ones that are STRONG that come to mind are the KORE control arms...

Wink

The weakest link will always break. If you make that part stronger, it will find the next weakest and work on it.
