transmission temperature
transmission temperature
What type of transmission temperatures should I see after driving fifteen miles, unloaded on the freeway. I just installed my gauge and it bearly moves off of 140.
I'm using an X-Monitor and get about the same reading. Depends on where you are and the outside temperature. I just went 2700 miles hauling a 40' 5th wheel trailer and never got about 160. You can add about 20 degrees to whatever reading you have to be safe.
Where are you taking the temp from, the oil line going to the cooler or the pan? From the outlet line the gauge will show rapid changes from lock up to unlock.
From the outlet line mine reads 160 rolling down the freeway in lockup but we dont have the same trucks or gauges so there will be some differance. I expect things will change after I remove the heat exchanger to make room for the twins
Good goin on the install you wont regret it

I realize we have different trannys. Just for comparison.
I see around 180* in slow traffic with outside temps above 50 or so degrees.
Can get higher when towing in summer traffic.
When driving straight highway, depending on outside temps (50s and below), the gauge won't move off of 140, because of lockup.
Sender is located in Hot Line, before heat exchanger.

Hello
I have the sensor "T" ed in the hot line about 6 inches fron where it comes out of the trans. It barly moves off the peg on the gauge. When pulling the 5er in stop and go and when backing up the gauge reads much higher. 160/200 is not hard to reach.
Once the truck is in "lock up " mode the convertor is locked and so it is not creating any heat. The heat comes before the convertor locks.
Just my 2 cents worth.
