transfer flow auxiliary

hello,

the transfer flow auxiliary fuel tank web page shows a new 70 gallon fuel tank for the bed and claims it can be used in the short bed. anyone have one of these, not the tool box combo but the 70 gallon tank?

if you have one how do you like it, think it is built good? web states this tank can be used with a camper shell on the truck, comments?

thanks,
david

I've got a Transfer Flow 70 gal cross bed on my '04 Dodge CTD short bed. It's one of the plain ones. Very reliable. I got it a couple years ago. Had it installed in Chico. 70 + 34 = 104 gallons, unless I fill slowly, then I can get about 110 gallons. Total capacity depends on the price of fuel and the line behind me.

The added capacity has taken me right by some pretty expensive fuel stops, and I've even been able to weather out some price spikes. I usually fill up between 800 and 1000 miles on the trip OD, which usually is about 50-60 gallons depending on whether i'm towing or not.

The company does say that it can be used with a shell, but you must have, I believe, 6 inches of surface in front of the side shell window to mount the fill piece.

ppod,
How do you use the tank - do you have a manual cutover valve, auto switch over, connected to the fill line of the OEM tank etc? I have considered getting the aux tank but just not sure how to plum it in so I can use it easily.

Thanks for any info you can share.

When my guage gets to about 3/8ths a pump automatically transfer fuel from the bed tank until the guage reads 3/4 (fills through the vent). My Transfer Flow tank doesn't have a guage on it, but I made a dip stick and calculated the tank level in inches. I've only used the dip stick once. I've never even come close to running out of fuel. The lowest I've ever got, I still had 25 gallons of fuel left. The operating instruction state that when your fuel guage gets below 3/8ths, your Transfer Flow tank is empty. Myself, I track use on the trip OD and fuel between 800 and 1000 miles. I once ran with no load from Tracy, CA to Beach, ND, 1440 miles. Took 73.4 gallons. Not quite 20 mpg, but had the Sierras and Rockies between here and there.
