Auxiliary Tank Transfer Kit Leak
Auxiliary Tank Transfer Kit Leak
Just bought a RDS 37 gal auxiliary tank and Diesel Install Kit from Northern Tool. Filled both tanks and everything went fine until I left the switch on over night. It developed a leak from where the transfer hose attaches to the ball valve. Drove to work with the switch off. Tightened all the clamps again using socket wrench, not screwdriver, and turned on the switch. Leak developed again after two hours. Seems like when the main tank gets full and the ball valve cuts off the flow, the leak starts.
Any tips? I want to just leave the switch open and only fill the aux tank, but it doesn't seem like it would work that way.

I've got the same kit from Northern, mine leaked also the first time I installed it. Mine was leaking at a clamp and where the brass colored valve screws into the 1 1/2" aluminum piece that you put in your filler neck. I pulled the main tank down some, unscrewed the brass piece and wrapped the threads with teflon, reinstalled and tightened clamps. I have no more trouble and leave the valve from the tank on all the time now.
Grav Feed
Dezeldog, It is a gravity feed using the main fuel fill tube. If you have a parts list for the ventline feed, I'd like to have it as a back up in case this continues to leak.
Did it work for you? Mine seemed tight also so I left it as is when I installed it. Well, it might have been tight, but it was not sealed. If you didn't put teflon or thread sealant on it I would bet that's your problem.
Success
I took it apart last night. The brass piece came out with just a touch of the wrench. I put teflon tape on the threads, reassembled everything, and turned on the tank. After a short trip and then sitting overnight, no leaks!
Thanks to all.
Thanks to all.

Marthon, I have the tank vent mod done to my tank. So I just used the oem vent for the supply from the aux. tank and never had a leak now in about 4yrs. I have a shut off in the bed and a racor 2mic. w/s filter under the bed. Hope this helps.
